Friday’s shocker
Sept. 29, 2007 @ 12:24 a.m. by JoannaOne of my most unfavorite jobs is to predict games. I just don’t feel comfortable doing it. Yet I was awfully earlier this week when Duane and I picked East to beat Kapaun Mount Carmel tonight.
Uh, well, uh, we were wrong. But don’t tell me you saw this coming!
Kapaun’s offense didn’t do much against East, but it did enough to score. As for East, Kapaun shut the Aces down. Yes, Bryce Brown got his 155. Yes, he scored a touchdown. But Bryce also fumbled five — 5! — times.
Needless to say, he was upset following the game. As for Kapaun, the Crusaders were rightfully thrilled.

City League is an interesting place. Part of the intrigue every year is who will step up to win the city league, part of it is wondering if anyone is good enough to challenge for the state crown. It’s like being in the Big Ten, I suppose.

One point I’d make on the Bryce Brown fumbles. Those were mostly botched pitches, not balls he had in possession, then lost. He was obviously overeager to start running with the ball before he secured it, and the pitches were not on target. I’m guessing there will be lots of reps at practice on these plays, because, lacking any kind of reliable passing game, East will need to run them well to beat Heights.

Maybe bryce would have secured the ball if kapaun’s defense wasn’t in his face all night

You have to give credit to Kapaun! They showed up with a game plan and executed it beautifully!

Their should be a rematch of Carrol vs. East for the title.
