The inside scoop on Kansas high school sports.

This week’s can’t-miss events

Oct. 1, 2007 @ 11:25 a.m. by Joanna

Let’s go ahead and start with football for this week’s can’t miss events. Why? Because it’s football!

Kapaun and Carroll meet on Thursday night: It’s always highly anticipated game, and one that has even more interest now that Kapaun upset East last week 28-6.

 Friday’s games

East vs. Heights: What makes this game so intriguing is what it could do to the City League race. If Heights upsets East — which Kapaun proved is definitely beatable – it would take the lead in the City League race. Heights has the speed on the defensive side to shut down East on the corners, a key to stopping Bryce Brown. But I don’t see East — and Brown, for that matter — struggling like it did last week. This team is too good to have it happen two straight games.

Clearwater at Andover Central: Yep, I can’t believe I wrote that, either. But Clearwater is 3-2. Not bad for a team that was 1-8 last year.

McPherson at Valley Center: Mac should roll, even though Valley Center has two wins.

Now on to volleyball. The match Tuesday night of Kapaun Mount Carmel and Bishop Carroll at Northwest is one that rarely happens in the City League. The league’s three top teams all at one place — gotta love it.

Tennis regionals are this week, and league golf meets are going on, too.

It’s looking good for any sports fan.

Let’s not forget the Heights v Kapaun boys soccer match on Thursday.

How is Kapaun not even mentioned in the 5A rankings? They murdered Wichita East team. They had the number 1 team in 5A, Great Bend, against the ropes (up 14-6 at half) and made some stupid mistakes and lost by two touchdowns. Respect?

  3. TOM says:

McPherson is the No. 1-ranked football team in Class 5A by both The Topeka Capital-Journal and The Hutchinson News!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What problem does the EAGLE have with the MAC football team?

They played HUTCH to within 10 points. (17-7) THey have been putting up over 50 a-game and shut out a decent Newton team 27-0.

Valley Center will be demolished tomorrow.

I can’t wait for Mac to have a chance in the playoffs to hopefully take it to the CITY LEAGUE (Full of its self League) when they whup up on Carroll.

ALL CLASS ALL STATE TIGHT END KU recruit Tanner Hawkinson with no drops this year. New QB Colin Walk passing with a 70% completion ratio. And I haven’t even mentioned the ground game!!

  4. WENDI CAMPBELL says:

Ok, I know there are some big teams out there, but people, come on, have you heard of Mulvane? Do you know how well they are doing this year? We are 5-0!!!!! Its not too much to ask to get the recognition we deserve for this accomplishment!!!!
