Army selects Arthur Brown

Oct. 25, 2007 @ 11:37 p.m. by Joanna

Before Friday’s game at Carpenter Stadium — which Arthur didn’t play in because of an ankle injury — it was announced that he had been selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. That game is Jan. 5 at San Antonio’s Alamodome.

This is quite an honor for Arthur, although I’m sure some of you will post that somehow he backed into this. Actually, I have no idea what you guys will write, but I guarantee a few will be extremely negative. Go figure.

This all-star game is one in which the nation’s top 84 seniors are chosen to play. Quite a few players in the past have used this game as the time to announce their college choices. I don’t think Arthur will being that he’s graduating in December and will have already made his choice by then.

Props to Arthur, but no surprise on the selection.

Personally I think you would love to hear some negative stuff about Brown so that you would have something else to talk about. I think that the Army selection is a great honor. On the other hand I dont think that Brown will, or should, play in the game. He will have chosen his school and should be settling in and getting ready for a long 1st semester of college. Why risk the injury just to play on T.V.

How many more games do you want Arthur to miss before college?

Football players PLAY football. They don’t sit out one game so they can be ready for the next one. There’s no guarantee there will be a next one.

Football players are not scared of getting hurt. I agree with RikRok. Why sit out this game? To get ready for his next game almost 9 months after that?

  4. Jack says:

Why not sit out…it did not phase him to sit out on his teammates the last two games. he was more interested in what was happening in the stands than watching and supporting his team.

Team before me, if only approved by BB.

Speaking of his injured ankle. I was sitting in ‘D’s South City Barber Shop when Arthur Brown walk in with a noticible limp. I asked him what happened and he said he injured it in the Heights game the night before. Up to that point, NO ice had been put on his injury, not after he injured it, not after the game, not when they returned to East High. It’s no surprise that it has not healed. Way to go coaches / trainers. Have you ever heard of iceing an injury to reduce the swelling which in turn will heal that much quicker.
Don’t blame the player for not playing, blame the coaching staff!

Maybe at halftime he’ll sport a purple hat with a Powercat on it…

Thats hard to believe that it wasn’t atleast iced once. I know that some players think that they are to tough to get treatment on there injuries but its a bad idea. It will hurt them worse in the long run. Speaking from first hand experience.

Wasnt Romero Cotton at Hutch out about a month from a high ankle sprain? Didnt hear much about that.

What’s Romero’s injury have to do with Arthur’s?

Wasnt A. Brown’s also a high ankle sprain? I know those take more than a week to come back from especially when you are playing that position and have re injured it. Besides what else do they expect him to be doing? Wearing a headset on the sidelines playing coach or something? Its pretty obvious you dont like either Bryce or Arthur RICROC. Why dont you just say that and it would save you lots of typing. Better yet it doesnt seem like you like much cause almost everything you talk about is something negative.

People get injured playing football. It happens. It shows how mean-spirited some people are to dump on a kid who is unable to play because he is hurt. Joanna said it in her introduction - “a few will be extremely negative.” So why give them the forum, Joanna? I don’t think this blog is working well for you. The old Q/A format allowed you to interact with readers, have fun with it, and didn’t open up high school kids to blistering attacks by anyone with a computer keyboard and a lack of class.

    What are you talking about.

I said I think Arthur SHOULD play in the all-star game in response to a previous poster saying he should skip it, and then asked what Romero Cotton’s injury has to do with Arthur’s injury.

Other than that, I don’t believe I’ve ever commented on Arthur Brown.

haha…he spelled your name wrong. Its RikRok, not RICROC.

  15. Mark says:

Sorry, RikRok, I (and others) did misinterpret your previous post. I thought you were saying he should have played Thursday night against South, when he was hurt. It is reasonable to hope that he will have fully recovered in time to play in the January game in San Antonio. I do still have problems with some of the other posts in this thread which pretend to get into his thinking/attitude.

I still say that he should not play in the game and I would almost bet that he gets told not to. If he wasnt going to school in the Spring then I would say play but what college coach wants an athlete hurt a week before they step on campus? It would be better for Arthur to sit out the game. What does he have to prove?

As I mentioned in a previous blog, of how the coaching that Brown is under is by far one of the worst.People dont understand the difference between being hurt and injuried. A injury can keep you out of the game, due to a noticable difference in your normal ability. While being hurt is your ability to tolerate pain. It baffles me how people can immediately come to judgement about this matter. And it even more baffles me how a coaching staff has not required a injuried player to seek the necessary treatment and rehab to get them back into playing the game. To me it sounds as if individuals have become somewhat negative towards the a players recognition. Would the posted blogs be as negative if this player were of different circumstances? I wonder how they would be if this player was from Derby, Kapaun or Collegiate? Would the negative blogs be there?
