Has Bryce Brown played his last game at East?
Oct. 25, 2007 @ 11:44 p.m. by JoannaI’ve heard the rumors, just like many of you have, that Bryce Brown, a junior, won’t be back at East next year. It has been said that he’ll transfer to a high school in the same city as the university his brother, Arthur, a senior, commits to.
So, I asked Bryce tonight if his City League-record breaking game against South was his last as a Blue Aces’ player.
Shockingly, I got a no comment. But he did say that he plans to sit down with his family and discuss it, while also looking at where Arthur plans to go to college.
If this was his last game, he made it memorable, running for 178 yards on 14 carries, despite sitting out the first quarter because of an “internal issue.” He only played one series in the second quarter before cramping up. He beat his own record in the second half on a 19-yard run (he only needed 127 to beat the record of 1773 that he set last year).

I dont think that East or Wichita need any other internal issues.
October 26th, 2007 at 8:17 am
I do beleive that this is the brothers or his, second “internal issue”.
and High School Sports Magazine made them out to be unbelievable characters… come on… there humble to the public..

Don’t ask Bryce what Bryce is doing. Check with Brian Butler on what Bryce is doing.
October 26th, 2007 at 8:48 am
I bet the majority of returning East coaches & players are hoping Bryce leaves. They would be happier being the East of old than putting up with the distractions they had to endure this year.

I agree it is time for this “baby” to go elsewhere. Hopefully they have good buffet place to eat and Butler will go with him. Where ever he goes I hope they teach him some class.

Having good character doesnt mean you cant make mistakes. I can guarantee youll never see him on drugs, or getting arrested, getting women pregnant and not taking care of kids, or failing school. I mean if you think about it, what wrong has Bryce or Arthur actually done? I dont see anyone talking about the kid that goes to BC that took a punch at a kid last week during the game. He is a good football player too. I wonder what people would say if that was either Bryce or Arthur? If I was him I would leave Wichita all together. Their are way too many people here who choose to judge. I guess Wichita is full of perfect. Usually the people casting stones are the ones most guilty. Unfortunately it doesnt matter if your the Pope, President, Superstar, or whatever puts you in the spotlight, someone is always going to find the negative before the positive. I guess thats just human nature.
October 26th, 2007 at 10:22 am
You cannot guarantee anything.
You just said it yourself: good character doesn’t mean you can’t make mistakes.
October 26th, 2007 at 11:22 am
It is one thing to not be upset after a game but another to not shake hands and lay on the field crying. Anyone know why he was sitting out the first quarter last night? Wichita is not full of perfect people, not place is, but if you want to put this kid on a pedestal than he better start living up to it with more than stats.

Big boy, Id love to meet you and for you to say any of these classless things to my face. If the Browns do leave Wichita it would be more than warranted. There are only a handful of people that have ever assisted in helping them out of kindness. And with so much negativity running rampid……A couple of you people are pure jokes and cowards. Talk about how well Bryce is doing in the classroom. And just to let you know why he threw the ball in the stands that didnt cost them any points, because they connected on a two point conversion afterwards; he planned it when he saw all the little kids in the stands before the game and thought that they would get a kick out of it. Class or not? Let you tell it he should have gotten a 4.0 instead of a 3.58 GPA. Come on Bryce your have no class a 3.58 is dissappointing from such a phenomenal player. Keep hating. Say it to my face bigboy….Then get your hands ready.
October 26th, 2007 at 12:03 pm
So tell me. What can Bryce do better to meet all of your expectations? All of you are obviously the perfect role models, with all the answers on how young ath. should conduct themselves.Bryce is going to be Bryce and when he is an adult, im sure he will be successful in whatever he chooses to do. In 15 or so years from now, all of you critics will probably still posting and bashing another young ath. in the state of Kansas. Get a life. If you have postitive to say about these kids then keep your thoughts to yourself. The kids need support or for people to be constructive when they critisize. Most of you are just being malicious. I like discussions, however I have learned to just be postive when talking about these kids and offer them nothing but support. Why do people waste time to anonymously shred the kids. What cowards. If you have some advice to offer to him, try telling him to his face or better yet tell his father how awful of a parent he is for raising such an terrible kid. In a world like we have today, ask yourself, how bad are these kids seriously? Its fine to talk football but use this site to trash someone’s character is just an act of pure jealousy or cowardness.
October 26th, 2007 at 12:13 pm
Your right Brian, we should talk about how good Bryce and Arthur are doing, AND HOW BIG OF A JOKE YOU ARE. Are you challenging people to fight? I can sit here all day and act like a tough guy too. But most likely you’ll never see me. If he should be getting a 4.0 then why is he getting a 3.58? And how come he doesn’t shake hands when his team loses? Is he to good to do that?

“If you have postitive to say about these kids then keep your thoughts to yourself”
-Good advice OWLS05
October 26th, 2007 at 12:23 pm
That is real good, challenging a 16 year old to a fight. You must be one tough guy if a few words hurt your feelings. I hope you a teaching something other than how to throw a fit when you get your feeling hurt.

I have no idea what really happened with regards to the internal issues. Heard a lot of grumbling about being temporarily kicked off the team. Also heard that the Browns are considering Florida. All talk and speculations. Who knows the truth. I’d like to see Wichita represented with good stewards of the game. Hope its not the contrary.
October 26th, 2007 at 12:44 pm
I am sick of the people in this town and surrounding communities always bagging on players, it only seems to be the players that have D1 talent. That shows that these people are JEALOUS and like children they try to tear people down. It is embarrassing to read and hear this. HAVE ANY OF THESE KIDS DONE ANYTHING TO YOU!!!! I dont think so they play football better than your friends or sons or brothers or cousins or someone you just know and being petty makes you try to tear them down. I hope these kids leave and never think back on this petty time in their lives when the only thing they did wrong was play football better than others.
October 26th, 2007 at 2:35 pm
Seriously, your takin it way to far ‘Shocked’. Petty whoever you want. Nobody has to come on these boards to read what people are saying. Including you.
October 26th, 2007 at 3:08 pm
“If the Browns do leave Wichita it would be more than warranted. There are only a handful of people that have ever assisted in helping them out of kindness.”
Are they needing assistance? I don’t get why people not assisting them is a reason to move.
October 26th, 2007 at 3:54 pm
Dont. Is that better
October 26th, 2007 at 4:50 pm
Do?
October 26th, 2007 at 5:28 pm
Why do you care about 2 players who mean nothing to your lives? They are good. I understand that. Why care though. Sure, it is fun to watch them run circles around preschool competition but in college they will be overwhelmed. I dont care if the kid runs a damn 4.4 40. He has never seen a defensive lineman who is able to catch up to him. (Ken Dorsey, LSU if youre wondering)
October 26th, 2007 at 5:30 pm
oh, btw, Brian Butler, why do you “help” these kids? Please elaborate and endeavor into your reasons as far as you think will suffice.
October 26th, 2007 at 5:44 pm
How many runningbacks that run a 4.4 or better have seen a 275 pound plus lineman that can catch them? I think Dorsey is #1 on every pro scouts d-1 lineman. Ryan Torrain played highschool football in Kansas and is the leading rusher for a top five D-1 program and a guy by the name of Jake Sharp also played Kansas football and is the leading rusher for a top 15 program and had John Randall not had run ins with the law he would have also been a pretty good D-1 back. People said the same about them also and thats just a few to mention.
October 26th, 2007 at 6:34 pm
Why does the Eagle provide a forum for ignorant people to abuse a high school kid? What does this have to do with journalism?
October 26th, 2007 at 9:39 pm
Sandersfan, your forgeting Kenny Wilson, DeAngelo Evans…
October 27th, 2007 at 6:16 pm
…BUST
October 27th, 2007 at 7:59 pm
Can’t we just accept Arthur and Bryce? Let’s say they weren’t 5 star athletes and say they were 2 star. Would we be talking all this trash? Just becasue they are carrying Wichita high school football on their backs doen’t mean we have to tear them apart for EVERY little thing they do. Why not embrace their talent rather then run them out of town. You trash talkers make me disgusted.
October 27th, 2007 at 8:22 pm
“Carrying Wichita high school football on their backs.”
Quite honestly a strong statement, considering they didn’t even “carry” their team into the postseason.
I would guess it’s comments like those by others as the reason they catch some heat.
October 27th, 2007 at 11:02 pm
And its people like you who study comments of others and annotates them so you can prove how much of a d!ck you are. You should try making up your own statements about the Browns instead of criticsizing everyone else’s.
It was a metaphor by the way. The Browns has brought back Wichita high school football from Barry Sanders ashes (another metaphor). Coaches around the nation WANT to make a stop here. ESPNU came to televise a game feturing them. Players like Marky Nolen, Joseph Randle and Chris Harper have benefitted from playing against the Brown Brothers and have gotten serious looks from major colleges. I take back my comment about “carrying Wichita high school football on their backs”. Instead, they are carrying Kansas high school football on their backs.
Annotate that sh!t, b!tch.
October 28th, 2007 at 8:00 am
Be a jerk if you want. I was just trying to answer why some people rag on the Browns. (And mine was a metaphor, too, by the way, but I think you know that.)
My point is that they alone are not carrying Wichita football in any way.
The other players you mention — the Harpers, the Randles, etc. — are in the mix as athletes that are bringing attention to Wichita.
Just because the Browns show up one week on ESPNU is more of a testament to the work done by Brian Butler. He’s done a great job of getting them publicity.
IMO, it’s the consistent “There’s the Browns and there’s everybody else” or a “Browns are carrying Kansas prep football on their backs” attitude that sometimes grinds on people.

WOW!!! Folks, I just read some REALLY interesting stuff here!!! Whatever the reasons we have for (not) liking the Brown brothers, please remember that they are in fact, good players. I recall many people bagged on Monty Beisel (and some still do) when he was @ Douglass… his senior year wasn’t good from a TEAM perspective, but he turned out to be a good ball player. Where is he now? With the Cardinals. Anyway, seriously, Mr. Butler… You shouldn’t have taken that one comment so personal. The nice (?) thing about a blog like this is that we can all say whatever we want in ALMOST total anonymity. One thing we should remember, folks, is this: Kansas is NOT a “hotbed” of high school football, so when we have a chance to show off young ‘uns like the Browns, Barry N Byron, Jake Sharp, Kamerion Wembley, et al, we SHOULD!!!! Cause we CAN play the game here in Kansas! Steve Grogan, John Riggins, Nolan Cromwell, Kendall Gammon, Steve Tasker and others…. Remember them? Bottom line: they are still just kids…
October 29th, 2007 at 1:25 pm
Sorry I don’t remember those guys, i’m not 70 yet… and how does everybody know that it was Mr. Butler himself? I can sit here and say that i’m Mr. Butler. But i’m not…
October 29th, 2007 at 3:17 pm
Bart you’re killing me man… 70? that’s too funny!!! :) just think dude… in 30 years someone may well say that to you!!! hahaha! :) price we pay for aging my man!!! and you’re right… that may NOT have been the REAL Mr. Butler… but still… ya can’t let yourself get worked up over comments in here…
and Arthur got selected for the Army All Star game? this could be a chance to show the nation that he is indeed a good player! (See my post above about “hotbeds of football”)
October 29th, 2007 at 3:57 pm
Lets not forget that Wichita isnt the only smaller city that has legit all americans. All Americans dont just come from top notch programs. I think that guys such as Ken Norton JR. and Urban Meyer and Bob Stoops are way more expierced than some of the negative jerks on these discussion boards. Kansas may not be the hottest bed for D-1 talent however we are doing very well relative to our population.
October 29th, 2007 at 8:05 pm
Sorry RikRok, didn’t mean to come off that way. I was just heated from the comments that were made about the Brown Brothers. They get no respect for what they are doing for Wichita. Every interview they do, they mention they want everyone to see the talent Kansas high school football has to offer. You haven’t talked bad about them (you could even be a fan) and I apoligize for jumping to conclusions.
October 30th, 2007 at 7:03 am
I think that the Brown brothers are great football players and great for the state of Kansas. I think that they just get put under a microscope because they have what every other high school football player in kansas is trying to get. Some reconition and the talent to take their game to the next level.
October 30th, 2007 at 2:37 pm
CLFan …. no problem.
