Are you ready for some playoffs?

Oct. 30, 2007 @ 1:06 p.m. by Joanna

I don’t know if you are, but I’m ready for the start of the football playoffs. The only time of year that I enjoy more is the basketball postseason in March.

Before I get into my question for you, check out Bob Lutz’s story on Smith Center here. It’s an outstanding story and it shows just how amazing the team really is — hello, it lost its top two backs early in the season!

OK, onto my question: What I want to know is — what matchup are you looking forward to most?

I would bet most would agree that one of the most intriguing possible games is Hesston vs. Garden Plain in 3A. I saw this game last year and I would bet we’ll see it again. It’s a treat for any football-loving person.

McPherson and Bishop Carroll is another that sounds good. How about Hutchinson and, well, anyone that can make a game of it?

Tell me your thoughts as we head into our first night of football playoffs.

I like how everyone is pencilling BC into the second round. Newton gave Kapaun all they wanted and then some. Kapaun had 200 of their 317 passing yards on four plays. All were HUGE mistakes by the secondary. BC will NOT run the ball like they have all year versus Newton, Newton’s run D is the real deal; ask Torgler. Mac, while I think they are the best team in 5A, has a tough challenge in Liberal. The Redskins are red-hot and a very dangerous matchup at this point. While I agree that BC and Mac are probably the “better” teams in these matchups, I wouldn’t be surprised to see an “upset” in either of these games.

There is another 3A game tonight that is of interest and that is Beloit and Sacred Heart. These 2 teams are in the same league and have played already once this year with Sacred H. winning 44-38. That was the 2nd game of the season and Beloit has been tearing through the opponents since then. Should be another good game to tune into.

I will be at the Beloit/Sacred Heart game. It will be interesting to see who made the better adjustments from the first game.

I believe Beloit has lost twice, so they must not have ripped through everybody since that first game. I don’t think Beloit lost its opener.

With the emergence of Myles Pinick, Rose Hill looks unstoppable on the ground, not to mention they played their best defensive game of the season last week against Augusta, look for them to continue that trend against Mulvane, my prediction is Rose Hill wins 35-28.

Smith Center was up 72-0 with :11 remaining in the 1st quarter. It is 80-0 at the half. This is just plain ridiculous and I can’t imagine these two schools being in the same classification. I don’t care how good Smith Center is, this has more to do with how bad Plainville is. How can you rate SC as one of the best when they are playing these types of teams.

  6. JIM JONES says:

    REALITY CHECK,
Newton will not pull off the upset.

Them shutting down Torgler is not that impressive. Kapaun is TINY up front. Newton’s big d-line should dominate like they did. Carroll, on the other hand, is much bigger up front. Their line/tight end/backs are much bigger and much more physical than Kapauns. Carroll will be able to run the ball better than you may think. Plus, the fact that Carroll has an excellent passing game with Bret Steven.

For this reason, i see Kapaun losing in the first round to Salina Central.
I do agree with you that Mac will have a tough first game on their hands though.

In 4A Tonight The Baldwin Bulldogs demolished KC Bishop Ward 41-7 to take the Bi-District Trophy. Does anyone know the final between Marysville and Perry-Lecompton, Last I heard it was tied at 14 all. I also understand that Eudora lost as well as 5A Gardner/Edgerton, I could be incorrect…I heard scores announced at our game, and tried to keep up. After the game there were also rumors that Chanute defeated Louisburg. Please, anyone with info on these games, please let me know.

    Thanks,
    Daddy Bulldog

Aww, c’mon Jimmy!!! Statements like that are too definitive for me. I don’t see any games, Plainville/Smith Center aside, especially in 5A that don’t have a potential upset. At this point in the game anything can happen.

Hey Jim Jones are you drinking Kool Aid or are you just stupid? BC is not that great at passing, and yes they will have a little trouble with Newton b ut should win.

And reality check Kapaun made 200 yards in four passes, Im sorry but is that our fault you put a kid 5″5 0n 6″5 you couldn’t stop my grandmother from passing on you and she’s been dead for 10 years, may she rest in peace. BC wins
