Tuesday’s games (10-30)
Oct. 30, 2007 @ 11:26 p.m. by JoannaWell, the first night of playoff football is over, as are the soccer quarterfinals.
In soccer: Congrats to Heights, which beat Southeast, Kapaun which won at Liberal (which had beaten Kapaun twice earlier this season) and McPherson, which is still unbeaten.
In football: Conway Springs beat Collegiate, Buhler beat Abilene, Andale handled Goodland as Garden Plain did the same to Medicine Lodge. Smith Center demolished Plainville as expected.
With Hesston’s win over Sterling, we now for sure have Saturday’s matchup between Garden Plain and Hesston, which you readers have been commenting on for several weeks. Should I give you your own thread? I think I might.
Andover Central was upset by Wellington. This was quite a game. Andover Central was hurt by not having Spencer Glenn for the first half (he had an injured elbow), but I don’t know how much it would have helped. The Jaguars made so many crucial errors on special teams, with turnovers. They nearly made a comeback, but Wellington took advantage of several key plays.
Mulvane is still perfect after beating Rose Hill for the second time this season. Huldon Tharp was the man — again. What can’t this kid do?
I was at the Andover Central game and so was Bryce Brown, watching friend Jaydan Bird (who got the boot off but still didn’t play) and several other friends from the Jaguars. One of the funniest things I’ve seen happen this season is a young kid from Andover Central was taking cell phone pics of Bryce as he talked to a group of kids. Unbelievable.

How good is Wamego? A 7-3 record doesn’t mean anything. They have made it this far and still have the power to upset the Wildcats. I am a Mulvane grad (from many years ago) and am pulling for them awfully hard. I am even thinking about making it to the game on Saturday.

The Wellington-Andover Central game was somewhat of a upset. Senior Tyler Lira was stating at school that we were going to win.
What did we do?
We won!
We played well; they just didn’t play better than us… We redeemed our loss in the regular season. I had some guy telling me that we took out one of their best players in the regular season match-up against the Dukes and the Jags; IT’S FOOTBALL…Crap happens. Your team shouldn’t rely on one good player to CARRY the team! This isn’t kindgergarten.
Everyone’s saying that the game was an upset; not just this site. Boo-hoo. Just because Jaydan Bird wasn’t playing and that Glenn didn’t play till the second half doesn’t necessarily mean that if they were Andover Central would’ve won. Like I said, no one person should carry a team by their abilities. Football is a TEAM sport.
Otherwise, AC weren’t sore or anything of the sort after the game. It’s nice to see a team that can lose with class.
