Playoff predictions
Nov. 6, 2007 @ 1:50 p.m. byIs their any better football Class right now than 4A? Take a look at the remaining eight teams. They’re a combined 82-6. And it includes three unbeaten teams.
That’s what makes the champion out of this class a very worthy champ.
I’m sticking with Andale to win it all, but it’s going to be awfully tough. If the Indians get past Topka Hayden, they’ll face either Mulvane or Ulysses in semifinals. And if it’s Ulysses, this will mark the third straight year the two have met in the semifinals.
6A: I still don’t think anyone will touch Hutchinson.
5A: Blue Valley West may be the team to beat, but it will be interesting watching the western half of the playoffs. Carroll hasn’t been to the title game since 1978, and McPherson has never gone. I think one of them will be playing on Nov. 24.
3A: Garden Plain and Silver Lake have been perfect since they met in last year’s championship. Silver Lake won that one. I think Garden Plain finally wins it all this season. It’s a much tougher road to the 3A title game in the western half.
2-1A: C’mon, it’s gotta be Smith Center. The only real suspense is whether it can go an entire season with shutouts. The Redmen go to Oakley on Friday. I say Smith Center will win, but Oakley might get one end zone celebration.
8-Man I - Hanover hasn’t given up a point, but I think Macksville wins the title.
8-Man II - South Haven has had quite a run, but I think Sharon Springs will be the team to win it all.

I agree that Hutchinson will win the 6A state title, but if anyone will contest them for it, it will be Junction City. I was in attendance last week at the JC-Derby game, and it was apparent that with their rare blend of size and skill, they would be able to compete with any team in the state. JC killed Derby with short passes to the flats, but Hutch is so disciplined that this shouldn’t be a problem. My guess is that Hutch will play JC in sub-state and the winner of this game will win the state championship.

I agree that Garden Plain and Silver Lake are power houses, and I watched the Garden Plain-Hesston game and GP put on a (you know what to Hesston), but I have seen Hoisington play twice this year, against Hesston and Sacred Heart, and they are a team full of speed. The Horesky kid might be one of the best runners in the state. They’re pretty simple on offense, but can make you miss and run you over with the 3 backs that they have. Having said that, Logan Dold is also one of the top backs if not the best player in the state, and the Capul kid is no joke. I think Garden Plain will try to out physical them, but Hoisington is full of finesse. I think the State Championship for 3A is being played this week. Both teams have been accused of not playing anyone, but Garden Plain has rolled everyone including a 4A school and demolished an undefeated team in Hesston. Hoisington throttled Scott City who is still playing in 3A and also beat a good 8-1 Holcomb team and a pass happy undefeated Sacred Heart team. It will be one for the books, but I believe Hoisington might be the total package. Good Luck to both teams!!!!
November 6th, 2007 at 8:42 pm
Didn’t see the Sacred Heart - Hoisingotn game, FIRST ROUND OF PLAYOFFS, at Hoisington against Holcomb, my bad.

Southeast’s season ends this Friday when the run into a buzz saw better known as Hutchinson; score 39-14. Goddard gets edged by Junction City; 21-20.
November 7th, 2007 at 7:28 am
After seeing Hutch, Goddard and Junction City first hand I am wondering why Derby can’t find those large bodies anymore. Goddard/Junction will be a battle on the line both have size. If Goddard can stop that big tight end from Junction they have a good chance to win this game. The Prize to the winner? Hutch , after they manhandle another pity league er I mean city league team. Once again this season has proven that the AVCTL Div 1 is far superior to the city league. And I am not to unsure If the AVCTL Div 2 isn’t also better than the pity league. If Carrol gets by Great Bend lookout because they get the winner of Salina Central (another AVCTL Div 1 team) or a Tom Young led McPherson. It don’t look good for BC after this week. They should beat GB because the panthers aren’t as strong as they have been in the past. For my city league co-works the score in AVCTL vs City league is 6-1 in favor of the AVCTL. NW did manage to beat our 5th place Maize Eagles. Andale looks like the team to beat in 4A as does Garden Plain in 3A. What a joke last saturday who did Hesston beat this year? I am sticking with Pitt-Colgan in 2A-1A and Clifton-Clyde and South Haven in 8 man.
November 7th, 2007 at 8:09 am
Ron, you’re smoking something. When all the city league teams play all the dork valley division I teams then we’ll know. Top dork valley teams beating up the middle to bottom teams of the city league isn’t a fair comparison.
November 7th, 2007 at 10:32 am
Mulvane all the way in 4A!
November 7th, 2007 at 11:23 am
Mulvanes gonna take the 4A title.
Hutch will take the 6A.
Smith Center will take 2A of course.
im not sure about the 3A though. I think GP could go all the way this year. They suprised me with how dominate they were over Hesston and Dold wasn’t even the leading rusher. It shows that if you stop Dold you don’t totally shut down Garden Plain. Hoisington will have a tough one ahead of them.
November 7th, 2007 at 11:44 am
Mulvanes gonna take the 4A title. (They’ve been my pick since the start besides Wellington. When they beat Ulysses, I’m going to the game against Andale. Obviously I’ve made my picks for this Friday’s game.)
Hutch will take the 6A.
Smith Center will take 2A of course.
Haven’t paid much attention to 3A.
As for 5A, It’s the same. If I had to choose, it’s Bishop Carrol.
November 7th, 2007 at 12:50 pm
I can honestly say that I don’t much except the 8 Man II league. Of course, South Haven has to get past Hope Friday — Which they WILL — but Sharon Springs is going to put up a good fight. Our boys have the desire in South Haven as I’m sure they do in Sharon Springs. It will be a good fight. I pray that our boys play to their fullest potential without injuries to any player. GO CARDINALS!

MULVANE ALL THE WAY BABY!!!
November 8th, 2007 at 9:44 am
ya
November 8th, 2007 at 9:59 am
Junction City Blue Jays all the way!
Hutch’s reign comes to an end as they get shuffled down to 5a.
November 8th, 2007 at 12:25 pm
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTT???? Hutchinson 4 PEAT ALL DUH WAY MAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 8th, 2007 at 3:38 pm
CLASS 4A–Anybody picking Mulvane over Ulysses has not seen the Tigers play. Ulysses will cruise past Mulvane. The Tigers’ defense is ferocious — terrific pass rush (Andrew Anderson) and a good safety. Run defense is tough too. Mulvane won’t beat the Tigers out west,
Andale will not have an easy time against Hayden. Winning in Topeka is no easy task.
November 8th, 2007 at 3:58 pm
I’m still laying money on Hutch to win 6A.
JJ, I’ve seen the Tigers play this year. All through out my Highschool career, I’ve seen them play. Talk is not cheap in football. I know the Andale-Hayden game will be a blowout.
Any Wldcats willing to teach me the crowd chants for the sub-state game against Andale ? I may be a Crusader at heart but like I said, Mulvane has a Crusader fan here in Wellington. I’m planning on decking out in all black and green not only for the game that Friday but also that day at school. Go Wildcats!
I watched films and looked at stats for both 8-man groups. I pick South Haven to take 8-man II and then Macksville for 8-man I.
Also, Smith Center for 2-1 A. Hands down.
To reiterate my point, I only pick Carroll because that’s my team pick. I’m probably wrong but I’ll eat crow if I have to. I don’t want what I did to Catfan1971 to happen to me.

November 9th, 2007 at 6:26 am
Hey Point I don’t smoke but lets see how your precious city league did against AVCTL Div #1. Northwest beat Maize. Congrats that is it. The only city league team that AVCTL hasn’t beaten is Bishop Carrol and that is only because they haven’t played Bishop Carrol. Goddard pounded Northwest. Derby beat East, Southeast and South. You remember East don’t you the supposed state ranked team. Salina Central beat Kapaun. Please do remind me If the city league beat any other AVCTL Div 1 team. Northwest even has recruits from Collegate, Wichita South and a couple of others yet still could not beat a homegrown Goddard team. MAybe If you took all the best athletes in the city league and put them together on one team you maybe could finish in the top four of the AVCTL. But look up next year Hutch will be 5A so Carrol may get to also see what real football is like.
November 9th, 2007 at 6:32 am
Blue Jay I will give it to you that you have a fine team but you won’t overpower Goddard and certainly not Hutch like you did Derby’s smaller lines. You have good fans too I got to talk to a few after the Derby game. Even after a blowout win they were very complementive about some of our better Derby players. You will have to rely on your passing game because you certainly won’t run the ball against Goddard like you did against Derby. Just ask Chris Harper and the Northwest running backs.
November 9th, 2007 at 9:45 am
jj u must b from Ulysses
MULVANE ALL THE WAY!!!!
November 9th, 2007 at 9:55 am
Ron, you’re drinking your bath water. Your “far superior” fraud has already been debunked on the forum — you may want to check that out. No one is saying the dork valley division I (yes, with Hutch doing it’s own cherry picking/”open enrollment”), isn’t better. But the “far superior” thing just doesn’t hold water until all the teams play all the teams. Hutch is good, but there will be no worship for them in 5A next year–streak ends. I think your, uh, 5 wins has been a little too intoxicating for you!
November 9th, 2007 at 10:12 am
Ron - Thanks for those words. We definitely know that Goddard and Hutch are powers to be reckoned with. By all means, the game tonight is going to be a dogfight, and we’ll be a lucky team to come out of GHS with a win. I have all the confidence in the world in our team, and I know we can get it done. Of course, it doesn’t get any easier from now on.. With that said, I like our chances. I just hope we don’t have to travel to South Kansas next week for a game if we win tonight. Give us a home game for crying out loud… GO JAYS!!
November 9th, 2007 at 10:42 am
Duke08: youre my new best friend! it’s really nice to see that people will still support their surrounding teams even when the competition become so intense. thank you!
: )
November 9th, 2007 at 10:46 am
It’s definitely going to be a tough game at Ulysses and I hope our boys can keep up their hard work! Thank you so much to all of you who support us! Especially you, Duke08!
~ Brandy
November 9th, 2007 at 10:48 am
Well JJ you obviously havent seen Mulvane play. If Ulysses wants to rush they will get burnt deep!
November 9th, 2007 at 10:51 am
Ok I see how many of you are not giving Bishop Carroll much credit. Alan Schuckman has that team as disciplined as any team in the state and they have some damn good talent. They have outscored opponents 225-57 this year and if you take out that tough game that they played @ Liberal that becomes 181-20. Their only loss was the only game that Bryce Brown didn’t have a fumble. Bryce Brown is damn good when he holds onto the football. Now I agree Carroll doesnt have the toughest schedule in the City League, but they have manhandled their way through the league. This game at Great Bend will be interestign to watch, but I see Carroll coming out on top. I say Carroll will make it to state to play BV West. I don’t think many 5A schools are happy about Hutch comin down next year, but I have a question. How can Hutch be 6A in fball this year but 5A in wrestling this year?
And By the way, My picks are Hutch, Carroll, Andale, Garden Plain, Smith Center, Hanover and Sharon Springs.
November 9th, 2007 at 12:31 pm
Duke08..thank you so much for showing us support, even when alot of people are downing Mulvane. Our boys have worked so hard and they deserved every win they’ve accomplished so far. i beleive we have it in us to beat Ulysses but it’s giong to be a hard game. They’re good. We need as much support as we can get, and lots of thanks to people like Duke08. It shows how much class you have. : )
oh, and by the way, i’m sure there’s TONS of people willing to teach you our crowd chants.. : )
November 9th, 2007 at 2:27 pm
Hey you Andale fags…good luck winnin since all your players have been makin out and got mono! DOUCHE BAGS!
November 10th, 2007 at 12:06 am
Hey Lakisha, Andale 29 Topeka Hayden 28!
November 10th, 2007 at 6:03 am
Point -Have you ever heard that children are to be seen and not heard? Your precious city league has one last chance to beat a AVCTL Div 1 team next week when BC hosts Salina Central. Maybe your first place team can compete with our thrid place team but we will have to see it on the field. Blue Jay congrats on a good season but the AVCTL is the powerhouse league in the state. With your guys height I would imagine you would have a pretty solid Basketball team this season. Good luck . BTW Thanks Arthur Brown for removing my Sooners from your list. I have seen you play the last three years and I don’t see what the hype is all about. Derby’s Taylor Bietler 6′2″ 225lbs is a far better linebacker. BTW Point maybe you should change your handle to “pointless”.
November 10th, 2007 at 2:10 pm
Ron: ouch! you really hurt me there! Don’t be a dork. The dork valley league is really good at beating up the middle to lower pack of the city league. Congratulations to them and to Derby for their 6 wins in the last three seasons.
November 10th, 2007 at 2:25 pm
How ’bout them south haven Cardinal
November 10th, 2007 at 7:42 pm
mulvane vs ulysses who the fuck saw this coming?
November 10th, 2007 at 10:31 pm
Guess who won??? Go Tigers… Andale, here we come!!!
November 11th, 2007 at 10:18 am
So what was that comment about JC being a tough one for hutch? Hmm….looks like they won’t get that chance will they? Lets go goddard! Last time you only lost by 14 at “their home” they best be glad they aren’t playing at the Lions Den….show em what we do Lions!!!
November 11th, 2007 at 10:34 am
By the way Ron real derby fan…glad to see a person knows a good team when they see one even if its not yours. Goddard is definatly a force to mess with. With our outstanding defense and quick dominant offense i want nothing more than to wipe the field with some salt hawks…(what is a salt hawk? Is that even real?) anyways lets go Lions (again since i already posted) hehe
November 12th, 2007 at 12:18 am
Is Renwick THE powerhouse or what?
Andale and Garden Plain dominate the state.
The only way it could be better would be if we could play each other!
November 12th, 2007 at 10:15 am
How bout that hook and lateral to give Carroll the win? that was a fun game to watch and when Salina Central comes to Carroll on Friday they will get to play a team detirmined to get to state.
November 12th, 2007 at 12:24 pm
ROMERO COTTON!! HAHA BLACK GUY AND HIS LAST NAME IS COTTON!! BAH BAH BAH JEWS!
November 12th, 2007 at 1:18 pm
yeah if GP and Andale would play each other i think i know who would win….
GP!!!
November 12th, 2007 at 1:26 pm
My son is going D-1 next year! Quarterback for Missouri. He will replace Chase Daniels at QB position!
November 12th, 2007 at 3:02 pm
“Fballfanatic” Hutch is still 6A in football and 5A in everything else because football and only football changes class only every 2 years because of district football. Next season districts will be restructured and that is when Hutch will drop to 5A in football. Wouldn’t a Football fanatic know this already?
“OhMyGoddardFan” a salthawk is a cross between a Jayhawk and the salt mines of Hutchinson. Since Hutchinson is considered the “salt capital of the world” a cross between the two seemed fitting. Just like the “Jayhawk” it’s not a real creature but at least it’s unique.
November 13th, 2007 at 1:04 am
GO ULYSSES WAY TO GO. GOOD LUCK IN ANDALE
November 13th, 2007 at 9:08 am
Smith Center will go 13-0! No one will score on them! Not even Pittsburg Colgan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 14th, 2007 at 12:30 pm
Any relation to Taylor Jones?
November 14th, 2007 at 4:11 pm
Hey Randy…Romero Cotton is the number one 189 pound wrestler in the country according to Amatuer Wrestling News Magazine so I wouldnt say those things about someone who could wipe the floor with you
November 14th, 2007 at 5:23 pm
Romero Cotton is overrated. #1 in Kansas I understand, but in the country? WHAT???????????????????????????????????
November 14th, 2007 at 8:09 pm
dude….we’re not talking about wresting but if we were, dont even get me started, you do realize Goddard has the best wrestling team in the state correct? Nce try. So Cotton that.
November 14th, 2007 at 10:36 pm
Um, I would have to say that Bishop Carroll has the best wrestling team in the state, Mr.OhMyGoddardFan!
November 14th, 2007 at 10:36 pm
I would have to agree, but Romero Cotton is a beast at football also. GO SALTHAWKS!
November 15th, 2007 at 12:17 am
I like how people are pulling names out of their butts to use on here.
I am pretty sure that if Boaz Beard really thought Bishop Carroll was the best in the state he would have gone there instead of Goddard, and Tyler Caldwell, I think the support that he gets from the Goddard Football Team would probably keep him from being stupid enough to cheer on Hutch when his alma is playing them on Friday night. Be men enough to either use your own name or something but do not try sturring up crap by being idiots. Fridays game will be a good one and may the best team win. Good luck to all. Oh yes I am sure Coach Dreiling is not talking smack on his #1 player either, or talking about his son going D1 next year I am sure he has more class than that.
November 15th, 2007 at 1:03 am
Thank you High school sports fan!!!
November 15th, 2007 at 12:53 pm
Hutchinson will lose big time!! Romero Cotton is the most racist person I have ever met. He calls me the n-word and calls me a cracker.
November 19th, 2007 at 2:38 pm
Boaz Beard and Tyler Caldwell would totally kill me on the wrestling mat. Goddard Wrestling is unbeatable and we would never stand a chance against them
