Wrestling regionals

I’m headed out to the Valley Center wrestling regional on Saturday. Finals are expected to start at 6:30.
But check out these teams — Arkansas City, Bishop Carroll, Emporia, Kapaun Mount Carmel, Pittsburg, Valley Center, Wichita West, Winfield.
Wow. That’s a tough draw. It’s unfortunate because you know no team will take all 14 kids to next week’s state meet. It’s just not going to happen. And can Carroll Class 5A win with only 8? Maybe so. The Eagles are tough, though.
Got a team or regional we should be watching out for? How about a wrestler?

How about checking out the Derby Panthers squad. They’ve got just as good of a team with more than 6 rank wrestlers. They also may have a chance at the state meet if they can get a few to qualify. I don’t know where the regional is or who they drew, but it’s bound to be good.
The wrestling tradition there goes back 20 or more years.
