Oh My Goddard

Goddard has overtaken Derby in the team points, thanks to four straight wins in the title round. Tyler Caldwell got it started at 140, Ryan Houlden followed at 145, Brent Fisher at 152 and Brandon Bonewell broke a 3-3 stalemate and in the final seconds of the second period, pinned Derby’s Coty Reinhart.

The Goddard fans are extremely loud now. And rightfully so. This title must be theirs.

    Joanna:

I’m waiting on some of that Eagle Outrage for the situation in Goddard, with the girls basketball team and the Derby incident.

As a parent in the Goddard district, it is EMBARASSING. The lack of punishment the coach, school, and administration have handed down is ridiculous. Not that it matters, but Winston Stith is a friend of mine, hence his daughter receives my same level of committment.

As a discipline, Goddard isn’t going to allow the player to start her next game. Additionally, she is going to be counseled and have a “letter in her file”. Really? That should certainly be a deterent in the future! This “punishment” is a JOKE. Racial caricatures, racial anythings, should not have tolerance. If this punishment “goes above and beyond” as Mr. Conrad and coach Keller state, then we have a REAL problem here.

Bishop Carroll sat 7 players, mostly starters, for the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP football game. Not “didn’t start them”. DID NOT PLAY them! I applaud coach Schuckman and the BC administration. Life lessons are far more ourreaching than a substate or state title.

I think there are times where racism is alledged, falsely, but clearly this isn’t an example. Goddard is really making a mistake, and needs to seriously reconsider their consequences on students who do this type of thing. Kids will be kids, in some circumstances, but we can not have a tollerance as a society for this kind of garbage. I WILL be writing a letter of my disappointment to the school and administration over this embarassing issue.

Can someone please help me understand exactly HOW it’s considered a punishment if a player doesn’t START a game? If they are allowed to play, then it doesn’t really matter. The most important aspect is who FINISHES a contest. Am I wrong to be this pissed about this issue?

As always you in the media take an incident an blow it way out of poportion. The Derby girls were indeed pounding on the doors of the Goddard locker room, so the Goddard girl reacted, not acted. Reacted, yes she used bad judgement, and she has been disciplined for that judgement. This is becoming a very good high school rivalry. Both these teams are very good and have good people involved with these kids. Let’s not make a federal case of a young person showing a laps of bad decision making. I am sure the players will not think as much of this as the gorwn ups will. Maybe we are the problem.

    Greg,
As a fellow Goddard student, you should probably get a life.
