You pick ‘em: The all-everything

We have basketball behind us — kind of sad, isn’t it? Two of my favorite things are covering football games and basketball games on Friday nights.
Now it’s time for the all important all-league, all-metro, all-everything. Check out Friday’s paper and we’ll have All-City League, All-AVCTL Divisions I, II, III, IV, Central Plains, MCAA. We’ll have it all. And we’ll run our All-Metro teams.
Who should be All-Metro? You name the team.
For that matter, The Eagle’s All-State teams will run on Friday. You pick the team. How close can you get? Who should be coach of the year for boys? for girls? Now, don’t tell me your five friends or the girls with the best haircuts. I want you to name who’s the best.
Let’s take this one step further. Tell me who’s the best point guard, best forward, best coach. Tell me who’s the biggest trash talker, who’s the nicest person, who’s got the greatest potential.

Tyler Springer the point guard from Mulvane averaged 16.1 pts, 4 assists and almost 5 rebounds per game. If you’ve never seen this kid play look at the videos on http://www.mulvanehoops.com.

For boys 6A coach of the year: Deon Allen finishing 15-7 after going the exact reverse the year before is something to be honored. I am not sure of the girls coach for Goddard but he should def get votes. They beat South, which knocked them out the previous 2 years and Heights, the nationally ranked team with only 1 lose in their last 40 games or so. then to only lose by 2 in the final, not the champs but still an incredible season. theres my picks

I agree with Loganismyhero on the T’s and trash talk awards, I think Lance Russell should be thrown in for all-metro though. He is right up there with Cyphers and Holloman

I think instead of Jordan Cyphers it should be Dan Page from Derby but Coach Herrs screwed him over. Dan is the most tallented athlete in possibly all the state but deffinately in Derby. I think we need to do something about these coaches. Its just getting silly.

Best coach - Check out Kristen Wiebe at Berean Academy
In 3 years of coaching, she took the program from a losing season to State all 3 years, plus took the championship! Now that’s a great coach!

Worst sportmanship award goes to Smith Center. The Redman left Ell Saline Gym after the substate finals without accepting their 2ND PLACE TROPHY, RED FACED. The substate championship T-Shirts were already printed along with the hats declaring the Redman Champions. To bad they NEVER GOT TO WEAR THEM. The COACH is a JOKE and has to be the MOST CLASSLESS individual in the STATE.

Women’s coach of the year: Kristin Wiebe from Berean Academy. She’s coached for three years and has taken her girls’ team to State all three years. She has completely turned around the girls’ basketball program at Berean and has an enthusiastic passion for not just the game, but her team as well.
Men’s coach of the year: Jason Stucky from Andover. First year head coach with his first State appearance this year. His players have a lot of respect for him, as well as he does for the boys. He has a successful coaching career ahead of him.

Gantt should’ve been all-metro. He was by far the best guard in the area and possibly state. Did you see his performance against Lawrence?
