I am disappointed in your best student section being Goddard. We found them to be some of the absolute rudest (not to mention racist) fans we played. The whole time our team warmed up they heckled the players... Ok.. can live with that, but the heckling was all racially based.. .. which I believe was out of line (what is it with Goddard anyway?).

Zebra Stripes: Sometimes comments don't show up because they are flagged by the computer as spam, so I have to go through and delete the spam and OK the non-spam. I try to get through it each day to keep the comments coming. Sorry about that.

why the big fuss on the fist bumps? as a varsity official, i tell each kid that comes through there 'good luck', and genuinely mean it. some kids that come through give us a 'have fun guys' or 'good luck' back. how is it any different than players who shake hands at center circle? do you want to eliminate that too? i'm certainly not offended or put off by teams or players that choose not to, but i see it as a mutual sign of respect between players and officals. i know there's even fellow officlas out there who disagree entirely, but i don't see any need to outlaw the practice. or are you just one of those fans who hate all athletic officials and think that the fist bump promotes interaction with the 'bad guys'?

You must puke a lot then huh? At my high school our coach won't let us bump fists, and I think we are the only school that I have seen that doesn't.

CLFan, its nice to see students who follow the games as much as you do. You are obviously very informed and you don't let the fact you go to Southeast cloud your judgement. That said, I'm sure your proud of your Buffaloes winning the 6A state championship.

Joanna, here's one topic I would like for you to discuss: Why do so many teams find it necessary to bump fists with the officials during pre-game basketball introductions? It disgusts me to no end, and I want to puke every time I see it. I have written about it AD NAUSEAM for more than two years, but my pleas seem to fall on deaf ears, except for most schools in the Mid-Continent League. If NCAA teams don't do it, why do high school teams in Kansas find it necessary? It go so bad in another state, the director of officials now keeps the crew off the court during introductions to make sure that doesn't happen.

Haha, that's a friend of mine (who shouts his love for you) who reads your blog almost as much as I do. Don't want to creep you out or anything but I'm just a fan and appreciate the Eagle for making VarsityKansas. I do go to Southeast though and write sports for the school newspaper.

Thanks for the response.
