Alcohol and athletics

So I was just surfing around some web sites, looking for anything interesting, when I stumbled on this story at the Minneapolis Star Tribune (I check the site out every so often because I’m a Minnesota native). Anyway, the story deals with an assistant wrestling coach who brought beer to the room of some of the team’s wrestlers.
As much as I’m blown away by the idiocy of this coach, I’m just as impressed by the kids who turned him in.
I’m not a fan of underage drinking anyway, which is one of the reason’s I’m a proponent of coaches having the athletes sign pledges that they won’t drink during the season. I know, someone is going to come on here and say they should never drink. Fine. You’re right, but at least the coaches are putting their foot down. Now, are the kids following it? Hey, that’s up to them. If they deliberately lie and prove they can’t be trusted — whether they are discovered by the coaches or not — it shows their personal lack of integrity.
Your thoughts?

Kudos to BC coaches and administration. Can’t stop it, but you can’t condone it either.

I am a proponent of drug and alcohol testing of high school athletes. I am also in favor of much harsher punishments for those who furnish the alcohol and the party locations. I firmly believe the best way to change the behavior of a teenager is to inconvenience the parents. If mommy or daddy spend a day or two in jail they will be less likely to allow the stupidity to occur on their watch.
