Crazy coaches

I’m curious — Are the only crazy high school coaches in football and basketball?
Now, I mean crazy in a light-hearted way. Not the Latrell Sprewell kind of I’m going to choke you to death crazy. I mean the coaches who yell during games.
Because it doesn’t happen in volleyball. I sometimes am amazed at how calm those coaches are, sitting there, their faces getting tighter and tighter the more annoyed they get. Yet they don’t stand up and yell.
Now I don’t have a problem with coaches who yell, but I think football and basketball coaches have a corner on it. Maybe the baseball coaches yell, maybe they let the ump know they are irked with a call. Softball? Not so much. (although I haven’t seen notorious yeller Kip Pulliam, the Heights basketball coach, coach softball). But neither Kapaun nor South’s softball coaches yelled Tuesday night. I thought Kapaun’s Missy Congdon could have yelled or kicked some dirt at the umps a couple times. It didn’t happen. She calmly approached an ump once and then walked away after talking softly for about 15 seconds.
Soccer coaches? They aren’t real big yellers, either, are they? Golf coaches? Um, I don’t know that I’ve ever seen them talk. But that’s golf. It’s a quiet sport. Ask Tiger.
Track coaches? Some I know yell, but that’s mainly to get the attention of an athlete. Besides, there’s really no official to freak out at.
What are your thoughts?

Well since i favor South I will tell you John Martin(Boys Soccer) and Mike Magness(Baseball) yell during games all the time. Magness yelled at the teams shortstop yesterday for getting doubled up on a infield fly. So they dont yell as much but they do yell

I prefer it when the coaches understand that one of the things they are supposed to be teaching young athletes is how to deal with adversity and respond to a situation they might not like in a positive manner. Most of these kids are not going to be professional athletes, but I think every parent wants them to learn the skills that will enable them to be a success in their adult life. That generally doesn’t include screaming and throwing things if you don’t get your way. Bobby Knight excluded, of course.

Golf coaches can’t even talk to the players during a match. I never understood why when you see basketball coaches yelling from the side lines.

If basketball coaches would do their job in practice during the week, they wouldn’t have to yell so much during games.

I enjoy nothing more than to watch coach prichards vains pop up on his neck during a wrestling dual. He is intense, great for the sport, all that. He yells ALOT. JUST SHOWS ME HIS PASSION FOR THE SPORT.Those non yellers were born to lose. Next year i would like to see some video clips of coaches who yell and coaches who snoozer losers.

Never really thought about it before, but I think you are on to something here, although I bet there are few baseball coaches in Wichita that yell. I don’t think the female coaches yell as much as their male counterparts.

Softball has some sort of understanding that a brew-haha with an umpire ISN”T tolerated, neither is ragging from fans in the stands.
