He was an unbelievable basketball talent, played a few years of JUCO ball and then was supposed to attend D-I at one of the Idaho schools but for some reason it did not pan out. The best athlete from my high school, that's easy. Me. No, seriously I graduated from Tyner High School now Tyner Academy in Chattanooga, TN. The best athlete from my high school would have to be either Jameal Hester or Cynthia Jenkins. Hester was the guy that wasn't great at any one thing, but was good at everything. He was a starter on the baseball and basketball team. Was the drum major in band and all the girls loved him. But my lasting memory of Hester - he graduated a year before me - was in the basketball game between our team and the faculty he dunked on our school resource officer and dogged him up the court. Jenkins won state track titles in the 100M, 200M, 400M Relays and 800M relays. There was another chick Kelly Smith that was also as dominant, but she didn't have as many state titles. College wise. Hmmm, the best athlete from my Alma Mater would have to be Tyrone Calico. Calico played WR and was the Number 28 pick of the NFL draft (Tennessee Titans) in 2003 after running the fastest 40 time in the combine that year (4.34). He was also a good basketball player. The football team would almost always dominate during intramural basketball and Calico was a big reason for that. Ahhh. The best athlete from my high school, that’s easy. Me.
