It's encouraging to see that schools are taking the lead on an idea that got it's inception in the Maize School System and has branched out very nicely. The Friendship Club brings together physically and mentally challenged students with typical high school students of all backgrounds. In this instance, high school athletes and special needs athletes were brought together to help promote understanding and acceptance of our differences and limitations in a fun and competitive atmosphere. Various situations and scenarios such as shopping, picnics, dances, etc...take place and have been a huge success.
