The Wichita Eagle: Truly Track Central

There’s a ton of track regionals going on — or about to be finished or over by this point — around the state tonight. Did you see or hear about an impressive team or individual. Share here.

Now on Sunday, you’ll need to check out The Eagle and Kansas.com and varsitykansas.com for every single one of the regionals. Yep, they will all be there in black and white. I’ll be in the office on Saturday typing up results, so will my boss Kirk Seminoff and our wonderful correspondent Taylor Eldridge. Josh Wood, our online guru will be a major part of this, too. I’m pretty sure he intends on scanning the faxed results and getting them up as quickly as possible.

Anyway, Check out The Eagle, check it out online. We’ll have everything you could possibly want to know heading into the state track meet. In each class, we’ll list every qualifier in each event from the best times/distances on down. It’s a must-see. It truly is. I actually had one person tell me that he’s seen a whole lot of people with the paper in the stands at the state track meet. So it’s not just me saying it’s must-see reading.

Enjoy! And if you’re a regional host, remember to get us those results.

Saw one of the strangest things in the girls 4×100 relay at the Hill City regional. Osborne was well ahead, and at the last exchange, the final runner reached back, but the baton wasn’t there. She reached back again, didn’t find it, and then she stumbled over herself and fell.

Joanna, I must say your track central makes the job for us media members in other parts of the state, especially rural areas, a heck of a lot easier. I don’t have to make four and five phone calls trying to beg for faxes or e-mails.

Jamie House, El Dorado, 12-foot vault rocks for a freshman

    Joanna,
What happend at the meet in Topeka? Does Heights have any other girls to look out for other than Glenn and Moore? I’m SURE you’ve heard something!

  4. Josh Wood says:

We didn’t get Topeka until Saturday. It’s all up and ready now. Sorry for the delay.

  5. some of the fastest left behind! says:

The girls who took 5th and 6th in the 100 and 200 meter dash in the Topeka regional will not be going to state, even though their times are faster than the bottom five who qualified for state. It isn’t fair to these girls who know their times are better yet they are punished because their in the toughest regional.

  6. The Lion's Roar says:

That’s sports. Get over it. The same goes for baseball/softball regionals, football districts, etc.

  7. Night says:

If you team doesn’t win regional’s then your not the fastest anyways. 1 rule that I do think should be changed is the fall start. In the Olympics and other bigger track meets the rule is that the first fall start gets charged to the field and then the second fall start is when the individual is disqualified. So 1 slip up in regional’s or state and your season is done.

  8. CM Scott says:

Hey Josh Wood, You missed my point I was looking for some inside info on the Heights girls other than Moore and Glenn. I KNOW that Joanna has heard something at home. She will know what I am getting at!
