I hope I'm not a victim of my own double standard, or secretly showing some type of sexism or anything. I guess my first thought was of "what if that was my daughter.... in HIGH SCHOOL". Maybe I was just creeped out from being a male (or being the male I used to be...?). I'm the first one to admit, I would make a horrible dad to a girl. I wouldn't be fair. I don't know if I could get over the worries of some jackarss chasing after my daughter as I did at that age. Don't anyone kill me for being honest. Maybe I should be ashamed of that thinking.

Is it crossing the line for a high school sport? I know I don't want to see boys basketball teams doing it, or girls teams either. The NFHS put a rule in about removing clothing at courtside (in BB) even if surrounded by towels and covered up by teammates. Again, I didn't have a problem with it coming from a grown woman (or a college aged one), and I'll take the next step to admit that I still choke up at the replay of Julie Foudy beating China in the World Cup...

Perhaps a prude, perhaps clinging desperately to the hopes of innocents in youth (and I realize HS youth hasn't been innocent for a REALLY long time now). Do I need counseling?

Greg, I think you are a prude. Have you seen the girls who swim and wear swim suits. I'm aghast! Smiley face, smiley face.
Seriously, though, you could hardly see the girls in the sports bras. I've seen guys rip their shirts off and nothing said. They were covered up just fine.

Although the score of the 2nd game between Hutch and Goddard makes it appear like a blowout, as a Hutch fan I found both games to be highly entertaining.

In the first game, Goddard had some chances to catch a few balls in the endzone but the pressure on the QB and the coverage made it to where the throw had to be in a perfect spot, and the receivers would have had to make great catches and neither happened. Goddard had tons of size, but the quickness, speed, and toughness of Hutch prevailed.

The second game was a highlight film. Both teams had KO returns for touchdowns and there were a bunch of long runs and long passes for both sides, but Hutch executed so well at the end of the first half to give them the cushion they needed to play loose in the second half and go for the kill, which they did.

If Goddard were to have played Olathe South, they would have matched up very favorably and would have won.

It will be interesting to see which teams in 5A will come out and try to knock off the Salthawks. I think it's going to be very difficult for atleast the next 2 seasons.

I'm no prude, but I didn't like seeing pictures on the web of the KMC girls soccer players, celebrating (July Foudy stile) with their jersey off, running around in a sports bra.

I thought it was one of the most awesome moments in sports history when she spontaneously did that move after the PK against China, but I don't see a good place for it in HS sports.

Maybe I'm allowing a double standard, maybe I'm a prude now... Thoughts?

My best memory was when Maize stunned Goddard 36-35 in Double OT in football on October 5, 2007. In my personal/biased opinion I think it was the most exciting/intense high school football game I've witnessed. (Probably one of the biggest upsets of the year too).

Just an idea. Maybe the next post can be like "Top 25 High School Sports Moments for the 07-08 year". I know there are way more than 25 out there but it's just an idea.

I will have memories of how close we came at Goddard to multiple state titles only to fall a little short. Girls Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Soccer, Football (if only Hutch were 5A). It was a good year to be a goddard lion with alot of exciting finishes and with a wrestling team winning state and almost all of them back next year for a possible 3rd title in 4 years.

Adonis Gantt's 4-point play against East in Koch Arena was spectacular. People dream of seeing moments like those and I did. Even with the game on the line, Gantt was clever and still knew he had a chance when half the arena was leaving to beat the traffic. He even had enough composure to sink the free throw to send the game into overtime ( http://youtube.com/watch?v=ow1pAzyuzxg ) and eventually hit 2 more to win the game for the Buffs at the end of overtime.

DeAndre Tomlin's dunk in the championship game that sealed up the 6A state title for Southeast was a not too close second favorite memory of mine aswell.
