Camps in Session

This seems to be a good week for team football camps. Andale, Circle, Rose Hill, and Southeast are all in camp this week preparing for the 2008 season. Talking to several coaches about the timing of team camps, most agree that the two most popular times for camp is early in the summer and towards the end around the time “real” practice starts. There are pros and cons for either times, however I believe that it’s best to have camp early. If you have camp early it allows coaches the chance to see what’s changed with the team from last year and what each individual needs to work on. But more importantly its a measuring stick believes Andale coach Gary O’Hair.
“We have done it in the early part of the summer the last couple of years. We do it early to kick off the training,” O’Hair said. “It helps make some of the guys realize that their are people out here who have improved a lot and they need to work a little harder.”
Southeast coach Gary Guzman prefers to go later in the summer, but doesn’t have that option as he has been chosen to participate in the Kansas Shrine Bowl for the second consecutive time.
His staff uses camp to get acquainted with some unfamiliar faces.
“When you have camp you really are looking at kids coming in,” Guzman said.
So what do you think? What’s a good way to prepare of the up-coming season?
