High school football on TV

I’m well aware that we have more than six weeks until we can get our first taste of high school football in Kansas at the Shrine Bowl on July 26 in Emporia.

So if you’re dying for any kind of high school football to watch on TV — and really, who isn’t? — check out the NFL Network.

There will be three high school all-star games this month on the NFL Network.Per a press release sent to my cohort Jeffrey Martin

“The Network showcases the 2008 Bayou Bowl, New York / New Jersey All-Star Classic and the PNC Big 33 All-Star Game beginning Saturday, June 14 at 8:00 PM ET.

2008 Bayou Bowl: Saturday, June 14 at 8:00 PM ET

The Bayou Bowl is an All-Star game between the best graduated players in Texas and Louisiana. The bowl game originated in 2002 and benefits the Shriners Hospitals for Children. The Bayou Bowl, which originated in 2002, will be played at Stallworth Stadium in Baytown, Texas.  Play-by-play will be provided by Randy McIlvoy, who is joined by former Texas A&M wide receiver Shea Walker in the booth and Patti Smith on the sidelines.

New York / New Jersey All-Star Classic: Saturday, June 21 at 8:00 PM ET

The NY-NJ All-Star Classic (formally known as the Governor’s Bowl) is entering its 11th year matching the best high school football players from New York against the top players from the State of New Jersey at Rutgers Stadium.  WFAN personality Jerry Recco and Super Bowl XLII champion New York Giants center Shaun O’Hara will handle the play-by-play and color commentary.

2008 PNC Big 33 All-Star Classic: Saturday, June 28 at 8:00 PM ET

Often described as the “Super Bowl of High School Football,” the PNC Big 33 Football Classic showcases Pennsylvania’s and Ohio’s outstanding high school athletes. The game will be played at Hersheypark Stadium in Pennsylvania.  Originating in 1957, there has never been a Super Bowl without a Big 33 alumnus. Among the alums: Tony Dorsett, Joe Montana, Joe Namath, Dan Marino, Jim Kelly, Kerry Collins and  Super Bowl XL champion Ben Roethlisberger.  The 2008 PNC Big 33 All-Star Classic will be called by Mike Corey and former NFL fullback Jon Ritchie in the booth.  Pat Principe and Lehigh athletics’ broadcaster Steve Degler will report from the sidelines.

So tell me, will you be watching any of them? (I won’t. I don’t have NFL Network and surely I will see enough high school football through my job.)

Do you really care about high school football in another state? (I don’t. Now my husband fits the freak category — is that harsh? — he’ll watch anything football.)

I have heard mixed messages from the world of “Bryce Brown”Some say he is already enrolled in a Florida High School, near where his brother Arthur will be playing college ball, or is he still tied to his roots here in Wichita and playing at East
