First night football schedule

I’m writing up football schedules, trying to get a head start on the football season, and I’m already psyched up about the first night of football in the City League.

It’s Heights at Carroll on Thursday, Sept. 4. Now if that doesn’t excite you, you must be dead or a hater. I mean, come on. Those are two of the best teams in the City League in the past few years — and will be two of the best this year. (Heights also plays Northwest on Sept. 19)

(So, if you can believe it, I heard the game is already sold out! I’m kidding! Don’t call the ADs; tickets aren’t presold. Really. I just called to make sure. Also, no one is standing in line just yet. So don’t worry about it.)

It should be a great game, though. Anyone else have a better opening night game (I’m taking Thursday or Friday openers)?

To make it even tougher on Carroll, can you believe the Eagles have Northwest the very next week? Man, talk about having two of the best games in the City League back-to-back. If both those aren’t sold out, I will be depressed about the fan base in this city.

Week 1 is going to be an awesome week of football all across the state.

    City League:
    Carroll @ Heights
    Northwest @ Kapaun
    Southeast @ Dodge City
    AVCTL 1, 2, & 3
    Hutchinson @ Rockhurst
    Goddard @ McPherson
    Mulvane @ Great Bend
    Newton @ Liberal

    Eastern Kansas:
Olathe North @ Olathe East…probably the top 6A teams in the state.
Shawnee Mission West @ Free State
    Blue Valley @ Manhattan

It should be fun. I plan on going up to Rockhurst to see Hutch play, but I’ll be sure to DVR a couple of the local friday night football shows for viewing the morning after. I think that the Northwest/Carrol game will be a good indicator of where those programs are as their offenses will both look a lot different, although I almost think that both offenses might be better than last year. Northwest seems to have a stable of running backs that they will throw at teams, while Carroll will have a high level of talent at the quarterback position.

You are right, it’s a beautiful first week for football. As if we even needed anything to get us excited for it.

Hutch @ Rockhurst should be a doozy, winner should earn place in Super 25.

    Film at +11.
