Summer softball: 2 teams
June 24, 2008 @ 1:10 p.m. by Joannaby joanna
My weekly installment of summer softball: The Jags and the Twisted Sisters.
I spoke with Andover Central coach Rita Frakes this afternoon and talked to her about her team, the Jags. It’s a young team and a new group that plays in the Derby League. Frakes used to be more active coaching young teams up until they were finished, but she took a break a few years ago.
“I know for our (Andover Central) program to get better, I need to get the kids involved. My first few years I didn’t want to step on the (recreation league’s) toes and I still have some who play rec, but they need to play more than rec. Hopefully next year we’ll keeep adding, get them to play some tournaments. We have a 12-and-under team playing in Derby, too.
It will help us down the road. I think the kids and the parents are buying into the program. They’re seeing some success, but with success, you have to keep building…. We’re having a lot of fun, the kids are learning some things.”
The Jags’ roster includes Circle’s Haley Hatfield, El Dorado’s Katie Byard and Jess Currier and the rest are from Andover Central –Kimberly Chamberlin, Vic Wilson, Hannah Mason, Kristine Mears, Justine Howarter, Dakota Smith, Carley Perkins, Hannah Nowicki, Bailey Cline (Nowicki and Cline are incoming Andover Central freshmen).
Now on to the Twisted Sisters. They’re an 18u team and I got their info through an e-mail from someone I don’t know. But here’s what I was sent.
The roster includes: Cassey Davidson, Goddard; Amanda Holmes, West; Becca Greene, Campus; Madison Light; Sierra Kackley; Jenessa Ternes, Wellington; Dani Schifferdecker, Collegiate;, Rebekah Benvin, Udall; Shelbie Mellington, Goddard; Kaelyn Davidson; Jennie Doose, Derby; Krystin Lowe, North
In Wellington the second weekend of of June they won the championship, playing the Conway Springs Benders and winning 12-3. It was their first tournament of the season.
If you have a softball team that you want highlighted, please let me know. I’m always looking for stuff to write on the blog.

How would they do against the ’stangs and ‘gades :)

OppK, I’m trying not to judge every team based on that exact question. Certainly I could sit here and only write about those two teams, but then there’s a whole set of readers I might be missing out on. And I know the softball readers are out there — I just need to mention Independent or Mark Griggs to get them to comment.

If it wasn’t for teams like this their would be no ’stangs’ or ‘gades’.
Coaches of these teams in her article work hard for their girls and when the girls catch the softball bug and the parents are ready to make the finacial commitment it is nice to see we have the ’stangs’ and ‘gades’ in our area to help the girls get to the next level.

Mark, Thanks for posting, but please understand that I wasn’t trying to stir the pot by mentioning your name. I was being sarcastic about the only time softball fans comment on the blog — and it’s actually true.
I’ve talked about softball plenty of times without mentioning your name, and actually, didn’t mention your name in the posts where the commenters went crazy. If anyone remembers, the post that started all the softball craziness was my oh-so-innocent post on the dominance of Independent softball.
Ah, the internet. Such fun.

Yeh Mark, youy name comes up anytime controversy in softball is mentioned. You don’t “need or want my name mentioned everytime softball comes up’? Yes you do. Your ego demands it.

Its amazing this guy and his cronies must watch the blogs 24/7. What JOHN said was true. These two orgnizations wouldnt exist without all the hardwork of the coaches that came before and coached these girls to the level that was good enough to lose them to them. You shouldnt be arrogant about it but thankful. Sorry to say your not the end all be all of softball in this area and your still relatively new compared to some coaches out there. If I had 45 mil I would start my own teams and do it for the kids. I sure wouldnt charge them a couple grand to play and I wouldnt keep their hopes up through years and slam the door in their face when they hit the 18u division because you bring in 3/4 of your team with girls who already have scholarships at the colleges they play for, which by the way defeats your claim that you do all of this for the girls and to obtain scholarships for them, what a bunch of bull. Thanks for popping your head in hear it was nice to hear from you!
