Dan Adelhardt says he hasn’t been ducking me. You make the call — I phoned him about a month ago when I started my football posts on the blog. I left him a message on his cell phone, he never called back. I called him at home today and he took the call, said he’d saved my message, just never called me. Then he laughed and all was forgiven. Seriously, how can you possibly be mad at Adelhardt? He’s so dang genuine and he’s funny and you can’t help but like the guy.

All right, onto the Kapaun update:

Kapaun went to its team camp at Hutchinson juco the seccond week in June. “It went well. You go in with it seems like many question marks and you hope that you can come out with less question marks. We return one offensive starter and two defensive starters, so we have plenty of question marks.

“It’s contact (at the camp), so rather than waiting ’til Game 2, especially Game 1 — ooo, wrong place, wrong guy — it just helps. Then we come back at the end of July (for the Kapaun team camp). We’re doing stuff without pads, without helmets, but we know he’s supposed to be there. We’re not going, ‘well, you look good in shorts.’”

As for summer workouts, “We do it four days a week. It varies from day to day (as to who comes). We have to get on them for this and that, saying it’s less than two months before we start practice. But it’s good.”

About the many new starters Kapaun will have — “It’s no different — new faces, new places, new season, let’s go.
We did lose a large senior class. but this is my fourth year back there and … you’re always looking to replace numbers. I feel if your program is competitive, you have to wait sometimes to be a senior to play. If you had six starters coming back, holy cow, either they were super studs or you had a hole in some place.
fortunately…. you know, we have some good young kids coming up.”

One of those is Dyllon Knox. “He needs to do well for us. He’s capable of being special on offense and even defense. It’s his time to shine.”

Anything else you all are expecting to see from Kapaun? Let’s hear it.

Dyllon Knox is one of the best running backs in the gwal he will surprise alot of people with his blazing speed and quickness. Knox needs to touch the ball 20 to 25 times a game for Kapaun to be a contender this fall.
