I love this blog!! Everyone is an expert on the lives of 14-15 year olds. I hope they all do well and that everyone gets rank and goes D-1 and plays in the league. But what will it matter if they don't get into college and graduates? Look at the past to see the future. Name me one player from Wichita that has played(not a walkon) for WSU on a basketball scholarship in the last 5 years? If a mid-major isn't recruiting from the city league why would a high major come here? I know WSU tried to get Jordan, Taj and Brandon, they are the exception to the rule. Most kids here go to a JUCO...because of grades/skill level. And most /not all are done after 2 years. Go to the Evergreen League and see all the former "can't miss D-1 player" playing on Sat/Sun. Basketball is suppose to be the ride to get you to college to help with your future. Basketball shouldn't be the future just the ride to get you to the future. Most of these kids are being feeded a pipe dream of going to the league or playing D-1. The goal should be that they get a quality education that was paid for by a skill that God bless them with no matter were the school is or what level. If we were just as insightful with thier education as we are with basketball camps/ranking and pub for thier AAU team more of them would be going to a 4 year college. Hey but time will tell.....I look forward to seeing them at the Evergreen in a few years.....lol.

Hey bigrog, when those grade exceptions don't pan out. You know what happens to them? Nothing, they just remain the oldest kid in the class. Go Texas!!! By the way for someone who hates on kansas so much, why are you here?

In response to kfan, if you go to espn.com and look at the top recruits in the country(class of 2011) , when you scroll all the way down to the W's, you will see Ja'ln Williams East Hs, Ks. or you can take a shortcut and click on to the state of Kansas and it lists Brett Comer of Overland Park and the Williams kid from East. It may not be a national "ranking" , but looking at the names on that list he's in pretty good company. He also received an invite to the adidas phenom 150 camp based off his performance at the Kingwood Classic this past spring.

WELL I LOOK AT IT LIKE THIS... LIKE I SAID IN THE FIRST PLACE KANSAS IS BEHIDE IN THE TIMES. IF A PARENT HOLD THERE KID BACK FOR BASKETBALL THAT ON THEM. I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THAT AND FROM THE LOOKS OF IT THE COACHES ARE COOL WITH IT TOO...... I DONT HAVE TO HATE ON KANSAS YALL DO A GOOD JOB YOURSELF. AS FOR AS HOLDING KIDS BACK, I'LL JUST SAY THIS. YOUR GOING TO HOLD THEM BACK NOW OR LATER.....MEANING HOLD THEM BACK IN 8TH GRADE OR SEND THEM TO BUTLER OR STEVE ECK..... AS FOR YALL PUTTING THE TEAMS TOGETHER,THAT WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT. YALL CAN'T PLAY TOGETHER BECAUSE EVERYBODY WANT THEIR KID TO BE
(PERRY). INSTEAD OF PLAYING WITH HIM AND WHEN THE COACHES COME IN THE GYM, JUST WORK HARD AND PLAY AND THEN YOU WILL GET SOME D1'S OUT OF WICHITA!!! HOLLA!!!

sprtsfn22 and Joanna's husband are both correct. I cant speak for football (but always heard the stories), but I have seen several grade exceptions on the Texas teams in the basketball tournaments. And I COMPLETLEY agree with sprtsfn22 on one subject. If the Wichita 14 year olds on Perry Ellis team were with the 14 year olds on the Kansas Hoyas team (all wichita kids) They would be VERY competative at this Main Event tournament in Las Vegas coming up. (July 22-27). They would have great guards and would be deep with size also at 6'8", 6'6", 6'5", 6'5" and 6'3". Instead they will send two teams the Speice is playing 15U and the Hoyas 14U. I will be up there and will root for both Wichita teams along with the 13U Wichita Bulls. As it is all three teams will represent Wichita just fine I'm sure. And If there is somewhere on here to post I will post how they are all doing while the tournament is going on. Oh and by the way The Kansas Hoyas first game 22nd is against a Texas team and the Spice Mo-kan first game is against a Texas team.

sprtsfn22 -- my husband was just talking about how there's a lot of 19- and 20-year-old high school athletes coming out of Texas. I personally think that is crazy. Aren't parents ready for their kids to move on and be independent?
Seriously, keeping them back simply for athletics is so sad and messed up. And we wonder why so many athletes end up bankrupt and making silly decisions --too many have no idea what priorities are and should be.

bigrog you know as well as i do the one major difference between the texas kids and the kansas kids are the grade exceptions. teams in texas generally hold their kids back a grade to gain an advantage. in essence kids are repeating a grade they just passed for athletic purposes only. when a 9th grade kansas team matches up with a 9th grade texas team those kids are usually already 16 years old. personally, any parent who holds their kids back for that reason has a problem with reality. Bye the way, Wichita is not "behind" you guys in texas , our problem is we are not unified! When a couple of coaches let go of their egos and unite it's over for the texas teams.
