I’m really not trying to out any of the faithful posters on this blog, but we are building relationships here, right? And I love finding out information about people — it’s an inherent nosiness.

So I want to know — when were you interviewed? For a newspaper? On TV? On the radio?

Here’s what got me thinking about this:

Last night my 5-year-old was getting ready for his T-ball game and said to daddy “if I do really well tonight, will mommy write about me in the paper tomorrow?”

I was cracking up. Well, he gets two nice hits and then jacks one into the outfield. After the game he walks up to me, I tell him that he played well and worked hard, to which he responds with “So are you going to write about me in the paper tomorrow?”

Aw. Blake Chadwick, you’re not in the paper, but you’re on The Blog at VarsityKansas.com!

Now here’s my story to get you all going in this conversation:

I was never in the paper, never on TV, never on the radio. Yes, I played sports, but I was in volleyball and track — and I was no superstar. I did get interviewed, though, by my hometown paper when I appeared in Sports Illustrated when I was an intern. It was the Richie Parker issue in 1996 and I was the lead of a story on us interns. One of the guys in the picture, L. Jon Wertheim, is now a tennis writer at the magazine. And I’m … yeah, OK. Oh, wait, Brian Rosenthal, now a writer at the Lincoln Journal Star, mentioned me in his going-away column at the Hutch News (he unplugged my computer, causing me to lose my whole story at the McPherson girls tournament).

So there you go. My 15 minutes of fame. What’s yours?

Fballfan, it definitely counts. The media loves fools who play softball in 10 inches of snow or who dive into ice cold lakes every year on New Years Day. Why? Because readers love you!

I’ve been in the El Dorado times just a few times for my XC and track exploits- never actually been in a story, just mentioned.

My church runs a tutoring program at Windridge apt, and I was pictured in the paper next to an article about the program about 3 years ago

My senior year I had a story before the second football game of the season, in the hutch news. I was a two-way starter my junior year and blew out my knee. that season(2000) turned out to be one of the best seasons in hutch high history. so the story was about me returning from two knee surgeries. kinda nice, my one and only right up…and I actually got some good praise from ol’ coach Dreiling!
