David Roberts is the new football coach at Independent.

I called Merle Shofner about who the Panthers’ hired to replace Corey Lyon, who’s now coaching softball at a Texas juco, and he said David was the new athletic director. So I called the high school and got David’s message which also said he’s the new football coach.

So I’m passing it on to you.

Here’s a memo from Ed Walters, the head of the Independent school, that was sent to parents and staff: 

David Roberts, a very experienced high school and college football coach, will take over as The Independent School head varsity football coach for the 2008 season.  Most recently Mr. Roberts coached football at Howard Payne University and the
Greenhill School in Texas.

Mr. Roberts has been recognized by his peers in the football coaching
community as an outstanding leader and coach, having been named Head
Coach of the Dallas Forth-Worth All-Star Game, American Southwest
Conference Coaching Staff of the Year, a member of the National College
All-Star Coaching Staff, and Texas State Coach of the Year.

 That’s my latest on David Roberts, although I left a message for him on Tuesday.
