Tellmemore gave this update from Colorado on another post:

“(Dave Milspaugh’s) 18U team was at the Colorado Sparkler this past week. Don’t know how his team did but one of his players got hurt. Hope she is okay. The Wichita Wave 16U was also there. They finished 1st in there pool and 3rd overall in the 1st place pool out of 153 teams. It was good to see them rebound from a disapointing state appearence. Appartenly they are getting heathly. They also had a player perform prior to the Kelli Pickler Concert. I was proud to tell my umpire buddies I was from Kansas when see sang. Some of there parents told me they would post her performance on the teams (wichita wave) website. “

Here’s the link to Stephanie Eleeson’s singing before the Kelli Pickler concert

If anyone else has updates from the Kansas teams, feel free to let us know.

As for how Eleeson became the opening act, here’s the background:

From Lisa McKeown.

Our team (Wichita Wave 16U-A) decided to play in the Triple Crown Colorado Sparkler in Westminster, CO, June 30-July 6.  As a part of this event (over 500 teams participating), players could send in “audition” videos to be selected to “open” as a sparkler idol for the Kellie Pickler concert which was held on July 2 at the Wells Fargo Theatre in Denver.  Our centerfielder, Stephanie Eleeson (Maize High Junior), was chosen as 1 of 4 players to open for the concert.  She was incredible and truly the best of the four!  To cap off a great week, the Wichita Wave placed 3rd out of 153 teams in the 16U bracket.  It was quite an accomplishment for our girls!  Our team is not a “try out” team.  As a team, we continue to strive to improve our game and be more competitive each year…we build relationships and players in the process.

I love information like this — it’s not just who won and who lost, but something more. So, thank you, Lisa. Anyone else have something to add like this or something way different, e-mail me at joanna@varsitykansas.com

  1. Very impressive says:

The Wichita Wave is a very impressive team. They don’t hold tryouts, they have built a team and stuck with it. I wish I could find another team like this in my daughter’s age group.

    They should be very proud.
