I have attended 3,4,5,&6A games for over 20 years, all successful and sometimes state champions. The longer the teams win........the longer the line is on the sideline. Filled with student/athletes who never get in the game. Yet they are there and part of something special.....They may not excell in other sports that have fewer players and competition is tough. But in Football they can at least still be part of the team. I was at the State 6A game last season......The Hutch sideline is a whole lot longer now than it was 4 years ago before they won their first State Championship Happy to hear at least someone (Fballfn) sees farther than the score at the end of the game. I wonder.......do you think the game will be televised on one of those local cable channels? The fact that Hutch has dropped to 5A will definitely help them with their program. The winning tradition of any High School Football program will recruit, Soccer and Even Cross Country runners. Better to be on the sideline and part of a perrenial gridiron powerhouse than to compete in the other HS Sports. I do however believe Hutch will not find an easy path after Rockhurst. Other 6A teams on their schedule have gotten better. Derby, Maize, Goddard, not to mention the Salina Schools. I predict they will not go undefeated this year. May win the State 5A title, after suffering a blemish on their undefeated record. No doubt the Hutch, Rock game will be a great season opener.
