South coach Tony Johnson is having his final offensive line camp — it’s his fourth of the summer — this weekend.

Here’s Johnson’s e-mail sent today:

ANTHONY ALABI current starting left guard of the Kansas City Chiefs ( also NFL Network analyst summer program. Guy wants to be in the media someday! Lol) will be here Saturday for our final ASSEMBLY LINE FIVE O-Line camps at Wichita South High School Starting at 9:00 a.m.  I am looking forward to this last camp and would ask that if you and any of your players want to come or just to meet this great man and great player please do not hesitate to call me.

Check out tonyjohnsonmotivates.com for more info on this man who obviously is more than a high school football coach.

got to give johnson credit for everything he is doing to get people out to South high for football. Alot of coaches work hard but I am not sure many have his passion. This guy will be successful before to much longer.

He does appear to have great passion. We just have to remember South High cannot win big at football PERIOD. Its just one of those things you can count on. They will beat North and West as usual. But lost other 7 games by an average of 34 pts a game. So I dont think that they will all of a sudden win some of them games If South high were to win four games I would think Coach Johnson would be city league coach of the year. He really does seem to know football and want to teach kids how to win. It is just to bad he is not at a school with at least alittle talent so he can utilize his own coaching talents!

You couldn’t win at West before Schartz came along with enough vision, stubborness, and drive to do whatever it took to be successful. Take another sport, Derik Dukes in BSB at South. He’ll coach fundamentals like they have NEVER had before, but more importantly he’ll make the kids believe in themselves like they never have before either. Will they win state? maybe not in 10 years, will they win city? maybe not in 10 years, but will they get better and become enough of a factor to compete? I’ll bet yes. Hey, East high wasn’t thought much of for several years in FB either. Things happen when coaches believe and players and parents buy in.

east still is not thought much of in football except for the fact that is where bryce brown plays.

Coach Johnson does have a great passion and has made great progress at South in the short time he has been there. He will continue to grow the football program and be a positive influence on not only the football players but all kids he comes in contact with. My daughter goes to South and has nothing but respect for Coach Johnson. He has taken the time to be a positive influence on my daughter and she is not a football player, just a student. We need more teachers with his passion for helping kids become adults. Too many teachers and coaches do not care and are just there for an easy paycheck. Coach Johnson cares about kids, both football players and students and he works tirelessly to be a positive influence on all kids. The South high football program will continue to improve, maybe not in wins and losses on the field but will certainly win in the development of young minds with quality people like Coach Johnson. The football team could do better if the city league athletic director would stop allowing kids to play for city league teams when they do not live in that schools area. Many kids are recruited to go to city league schools and it is allowed to continue. Many quality players that should go to South either move if their family has the means or give a fake address and attend another school with a better program. As Coach Johnson continues to build a program at South he will get more of these kids to stay at South because of his effort, character, and passion. He is one of the top football coaches in the area, not in wins but in character, integrity, passion, etc. The game of football is more about developing these young men and getting them ready for life than it is about winning and loosing games. Learning to loose and go out and fight next week and succeed is a might better lesson in life than learning to cheat and win every Friday night and never learn to deal with adversity. 99.9% of these kids will not play football for a living, a few skilled players who stay healthy will get to play in collage. They need to lean life. I know who I would want to lead my kid onto the field.

Why does everyone say he has great character? Is it because he promotes himself and how great an oline coach he is? I read what joanna wrote and checked out his website. I’m not impressed, I’m just wondering what he’s doing that impresses everyone so much.

Coach, I really like Tony because he seems so genuine. I don’t know him that well, but I know that he works hard to promote his players, and anytime I’ve dealt with him, he’s been helpful and nice.

CCZACK GREAT POST my friend my only thought is how long will he be there when other schools see what a quality coach he is ?

And “cczach”, South is just as bad about having kids that do not live in its district going to its school. I happen to know five kids that are goofey enough to put the same familys address down for where they live so they can play football at south. Three of them live clear up in north end of town, one lives within walking distance of Southeast and another one lives by East. If you was gonna do that I also would think it wouldn’t be to play at South. But they are doing it, All I could figureis they thought they couldn’t play for another school. Anyway my point was don’t blame not winning big on the kids not playing in they’re district because all the schools do it. Or try to do it.

  12. cczack says:

my point is that it is a district problem and the district needs to fix it. There are not any great players cheating to go to South. It is a constant problem in the district that need to be addressed and not ignored.
