Improving the blog
July 21, 2008 @ 9:54 a.m. by Joannaby joanna
I see that there are several topics that continue to get comments on — MAYB exposure camp, top 5 Wichita area football players, Hutchinson vs. Rockhurst.
My question to you is, do you want me to continually put those up higher on the blog so that you don’t have to search through it?
This blog is nearing its one-year anniversary, so what other ideasĀ do you have for making it even better. I love this blog — there’s no doubt that it’s a baby of mine (ask my family — what’s mom doing? She’s blogging. Sad, I know.)
But I know there’s room for improvement. Even if there’s something little, let me know. Got a topic idea? Send it on to me here or at joanna@varsitykansas.com. Want serious discourse on the intricacies of a particular offense or defense? Maybe I can interview the right people to give you all some insight.
We have some very faithful readers, posters and lurkers, and I want to not only keep you guys coming back but I want even more to find this site. So help me make it better.

It would be nice to be able to more clearly see if a new comment has been added to a blog topic without having to scroll through every time.
I don’t know if there’s a way to do that, but I think it would be beneficial for the blog.

Nothing major, or minor, comes to my mind.
Some of the responses from posters could make more sense. And if things could stay on topic.
Mixing in a period or two in a 250-word stream of consciousness would help.
Story idea: Ever thought of doing preseason all-state teams? It would take some work, but would make for interesting discourse. Maybe you put one in your preseason tab and I just missed it.

I think they list players to watch off of each team in their tab.

Would there be anyway to format it more like a forum, to where whenever there is a new post on a topic, the blog automatically shoots to the top of the blog list?

Yeah, but players to watch isn’t going to generate much talk. It’s three or four guys, usually picked by the coaches.

You’re probably getting tired of my lobbying, but how about some more cross country of track stuff? These kids work hard without the public spotlight, and many like it that way. I’m not asking to make it a regular deal, but every once and a while it would be cool to see something about it.

How about getting ahold of some of the kids we discuss (with parental consent of course) and let them submit a diary of one of their weekends or tournaments. They can comment about it on the blog. Who better to comment on a subject than the participant themselves.

90grad. Good idea, I like it. Got a kid in mind who’d be good?

Dorian Roberts, Blake Bell, Joseph Randle, Bryce Brown for football. Perry Ellis, Ja’ln Williams, Leon Flowers for basketball. I think it would be very insightful.
