Blake B.

If you didn’t know Blake B is in reference to Blake Bell.
I got a chance to peep the kid when he worked out with Steve Cisneros, quarterback guru, and I will say I was very impressed. His mechanics are raw, but he learns quickly.
The kid exudes athleticism. His movements are very fluid, natural. And he has a great pedigree with his dad and uncle being former NFL players.
He has the arm of a pocket passer, but he’s also mobile enough to make things happen if the pocket collapses.
I wasn’t around last season, so I don’t know what kind of QB that Bishop Carroll had, but I’m assuming he had to be pretty good if Blake lined up at receiver.
That’s all I’ll say about him for now. Throwing the ball is a lot easier when there isn’t defensive player running at you. So I’ll save any other comments until after Heights.
Blake B. attended the Football University Camp in Orlando a couple weeks ago along with fellow Kansans Bryce Brown and Jaydan Bird. Not bad company to be in considering that Blake B. hasn’t thrown a football in a high school game.
“Just going in I was excited. I knew there would be good quarterbacks there,” said Bell. ” I worked a lot on mechanics.”
Though many people in the area consider him a top prospect, he has yet to garner that type of attention, which he shouldn’t until he shows and proves at the quarterback position. But he knows with his size and ability that the coaches will come-a-calling if he plays up to his potential.
“The only reason I’m not getting those extra looks is because I haven’t played on Friday nights.”

I imagine Bell would have started just about anywhere else in Kansas, but he was behind a Shrine Bowl quarterback in Steven. There was a throw that Steven made in the game Saturday where he was off-balanced and drilled it in there that was impressive, and his TD throw to Braxton where he got drilled immediately following letting the ball go by 6-4 305 pound D-End Zlatnik was a sign mental toughness knowing that he was going to get hammered but not letting it affect his throw. i came away fairly impressed with both of the West’s quarterbacks, even though they’d like to have a couple of throws back.

There was also another accomplished, senior quarterback on the ‘07 BC roster, Dustin Moses.

Brett Steven did play very well.
And if “Blake B” is some kind of nickname, it needs dropped. Not catchy at all.

Technically, it’s not true to say that Bell “hasn’t thrown a football in a high school game.” He did have have a few pitches in mop-up duty last season. He was behind both Steven and another accomplished senior QB, Dustin Moses.
It will be fun to watch the offense in action this season.

Bell was right where he needed to be, learning from older kids lets not hype the kid until he plays a couple of games just because he’s 6″7 and his dad and uncle player pro sports does not mean he’s the next Joe Montana. Give him some slack that’s alot of preasure on the kid.

“preasure” “hype” if you go to an invite only allstar camp ,etc you better be able to handle the pressure. Maybe im wrong but isnt having a chance to preform on the biggest stage available what the top players are prepareing for? Im confident He will “make plays”!

Blake is also a pretty good basketball player. I watched him drop 33 against East High last season. It’s great when Wichita has several outstanding kids to talk about whether its Bell, Brown, Randle, Roberts. or whoever. It’s good for the city.

I threw out Joseph Randle as one of the top 5 in http://blogs.varsitykansas.com/blog/2008/07/02/five-football-players-to-watch/ — check it out. I don’t know why he’s not more of a conversation piece.

Hello Wichita lets don’t take anything a way from Blake Bell! He will be a solid player with the system BC runs. I agree there are a lot of solid players in Wichita and Kansas. I love the Rendell kid from SE, and the D-Mac from North West 10.7 in the hundred Wow! Their must be a lot of good coaches because all these kids seem well coached. Another QB to watch is Chadick at NW spins the ball very well.

Fballfn, Bell got an invite only because of his Dad and Uncle, that being said he’s not a bad player and a better Basketball player than Football. I like the kid we’ll see what happens he should be good but really he didn’t get invited because of his play last year. And yes as a player you want the pressure but backoff alittle on this kid he has a tough road to follow. Good Luck

With all the Hype on B, you really wonder how well he will do. The fact that he is a very well rounded Basketball player doesn’t necessarily mean he will excel in the Q.B. position. The pressure is a little different on the field than on the court. There aren’t very many exceptional H.S. roundballers who excell on the Gridiron. As the Friday Nite Lights glare, and the Linbackers stare, B will either stand tall in the pocket or be crushed by a charging Defensive Lineman like a shooting Rocket. I am excited about watching him play!!! To see if he steps up to the competition.
