The bond issue: A poll
July 30, 2008 @ 10:53 a.m. by Joannaby joanna
This is what I want to know regarding the bond issue:
1. Will you vote?
2. Will you vote yes or no? Why?
3. Are you registered to vote? If not, will you become registered to vote in this election?

1. Yes
2. I’ll vote no. There are many reasons; if the bond issue was devoted to merely those things that would benefit all students (more classrooms, for example) I’d take another look at it. I cannot support new gyms built merely to increase seating, for example. Why do middle schools need practice gyms? If the gym that is present at the building fills the need for physical education classes, that is sufficient. If practices need to be held later in the afternoon, in the evening, so be it. I think the district needs to consider joint facilities, such as Hummer in Topeka; a district natatorium would be another thing to think about.
3. Yes.

Yes I hope very much it passes. If not then I guess I will move my family out to Goddard or one of the other areas that supports the schools better. The facilities in Wichita are A JOKE. Kids deserve better then that. All the basketball gyms are a hundred years old (except East and Northwest) And Northwest gym for being the newest school in Wichita, is not that great either. And how does a high school not have a football field? I could go on forever on this subject but suppose I should just say I’M VOTING FOR THE BOND ISSUE. Just wished we would have had the vote before school starts so I don’t have to pull my kids out of school after the year has already started (If it does not pass). But hopefuly it does pass and thats not even a issue as I would rather they went to Wichita schools so they could compete against better competition, and be around a more diverse group of kids.

1. Yes.
2. Yes. We have to stop bleeding our tax base away to the suburbs. Let’s keep good, working families in town instead of holding up the sign to get out of town for the sake of their children. I don’t want to be the only one left besides the “taxpayers advocates” holding the tax-paying bag. Or maybe I’ll follow my friends and their families out of town.
3. Yes.

Yes. I will vote yes but I am a little disappointed in the recent proposal by CARE. Why cut anything. Send it to vote and if it doesn’t make it as is then cut somethings and try again, don’t cut anything before hand. I believe kids act according to their enviroment and if they continue to have poor facilities less and less kids will be involved. Give the kids what they deserve, athletics has to serve as many if not alot more kids than the VOTech. Some of these old foogies need to move to a small town if they don’t want to have higher taxes. What is 10 dollars or even 100 extra dollars a year. Don’t eat McDonalds 1 times a week. We will eventually be one fat country with kids who can test really well but can’t fit in a desk to take the test. Anyway, i am registered but again if this doesn’t pass I will move with my kids out to the suburbs and be disappointed in the wichita community.

Yes, but have moved out of the 259 district. There is not enough money on this planet to satisfy this district. If we gave them another couple of billion, they would be back in two years asking for more, with poorly maintained facilities still neglected. This is not a well-managed school district — it is sanctioned money pit, with little emphasis on education.

1. Yes
2. Absolutely Yes. It matters little to our family that the last of four children will be exiting the USD259 school system by May 2010 - we enthusiastically support the bond issue. The cuts proposed are just silly. Let’s take it on and get it done.
3. Yes.

1. Yes
2. Undecided.. … I would like the tennis courts, tracks ect to be repair/replace/ upgraded, I think we are asking for injuries and they are appalling. I believe new pools are needed, (most aren’t even regulation and are a joke, and a new stadium (s).. But some of the choices.. arrgh where are their brains!? a stadium at NE magnet? A a school that doesn’t even have an athletics program? Give me a break…. Turning the secondary gym into a weights room at Heights? Do they really need a weight room that BIG? That would be a HUGE area, ect ect.. Some of those types of things really have me question it all.
3. Yes

Do they need a weight room that big? This is one small example of how “voters” in this town have 0 understanding on what is really needed and how poor Wichita looks to anyone considering moving here. Wichita High Schools and the facilitys are a complete joke and i promise you anyone with kids moving here will either live in a surrounding towm Andover,Derby,Goddard,Rose Hill,,etc or put there kids in private school. This bond should not only be passed ,what should really be done is a 1% sales tax increase to fund the faciltys we really need and we might have a chance to not become one big inner city “bleep” hole. Anyone who dosnt vote for this bond is a complete idiot or could care less about Wichita period.

The sales tax idea was always what I thought would be great idea. But they are not allowed to use any sales tax increase for things like schools and stuff. Too bad because that would be a great idea. But cant be done.
