Finishing up at the MAYB national tournament

I checked out one of the MAYB finals yesterday at Koch Arena (for a story that will run on Tuesday). I have to admit that I was blown away. It was a fourth-grade final, pitting the Team Kansas Crunch and an Iowa team.

I had no idea that fourth graders could be that good. I feel like an idiot saying that, but it’s true. I saw players with some pretty nice handles, cross-over dribbles, a pretty sweet blocked shot. And these little, bitty kids hitting from three-point range. The Crunch took a close game (probably six or eight points) into a blowout because of late three-point shooting.

Were there any other good games? Did anyone go (does anyone besides parents go to the games anyway?)

I’d love to hear.

Team Kansas Crunch are a good team. They are coached by former Southeast standout Chuck Gunter. Good job repping Wichita at Koch Arena.
