ESPNU’s top 150 football players: Bryce Brown ranked 14th
Aug. 5, 2008 @ 9:35 a.m. by Joannaby joanna
ESPNU has ranked the top 150 football players for 2009 and East’s Bryce Brown is ranked 14th.
Here’s the link for ESPNU’s 150 watch list for 2009 but it doesn’t show the ranking. But the e-mail I was sent by Jeffrey Martin, our K-State beat writer who has a blog K-Stated has the players ranked. Maybe it’s on the ESPN Web site, but I’ve got too much to do to sit and sift through.
According to the e-mail, the top-ranked player is “quarterback Matt Barkley from Mater Dei High School in Westlake Village, Calif. Barkley was joined in the top five by No.2 Russell Shepard (ATH/Cypress Ridge High School, Houston, Tex.), No.3 Aaron Murray (QB/Plant Senior High School, Tampa, Fla.), No.4 Devon Kennard (DE/Desert Vista High School, Phoenix, Ariz.) and No.5 Dre Kirkpatrick (BD/Gadsden High School, Gadsden, Ala.). Barkley has committed to play at the University of Southern California, Shepard to Louisiana State and Murray to Georgia.
It seems a little low for Brown, considering he’s No. 9 in the Rivals 100 and the top-rated running back by Scout.com.

My goodness, folks, nothing wrong with No. 14 in the country.
Seems low because another service has him No. 1? Who says Scout.com is correct.
Most people would rank Scout.com No. 3 among the three services.
Bryce is a high level Division I talent.

I hope he does well this year, dont want to see him get injured and hopefully East will have a good season. Of course i dont want him or the Aces beating my Panthers. I met Matt Byers during the Track and Field Season, he appears to be a nice kid also. Good luck Bryce and dont feel you have to carry the entire workload.
Is Bryce definitely going to Miami with his Brother Arthur? Anyone?

Bryce is easily in the top 10 ! These rankings are so subjective and im not sure anyone really knows how each one is complied. the most laughable example is on rivals #2 Cierre Wood and the #1 back acording to there list, he might be the 5th best back in the country “maybe” . Another example off the top of my head is here localy rivals has Brett Soft rated #2 ahead of Jayden Bird,Huldon Tharp,Riley Spencer etc and there is NO way he is as talented as any of those players so i dont put much stock in the “rankings” .

Bryce is a great talent #1 ,#2 ,#14 or 100. Each list is going to be different and might rank a guy they talk to personally higher.
All these kids getting National attention should be honored,WE should be honored having kids like this here.As I said before ,all these groups will rate Bryce different.I know Bryce and Arthurs dad very well and we need to think of this ranking the way he told me to about my son.Rivals, scout, ESPN will come and go .Bryce is #1 to him and should be to us as a community thats all that counts.

Your opinion is more subjective than their’s I’m sure they’ve seen more of these guys than you have. This stuff is fun to look at but it doesn’t matter. Believe me, Pete Carroll isn’t looking at these rankings.

ESPNU focusses too much attention on the big state kids like Cali, Texas, Florida.
Rivals follows the hype of athletes too much.
Neither seem to take enough consideration into the talent of the opponents the athletes face and the talent of their own team and coaching.
Of course most of you are going to think bryce is in the top 5 or 10, but come on. People of course tend to chear for the home state athletes. Especially when it’s a state like Kansas that isn’t exactly a top athletic state. So how about all of you idiots like Coach ask yourselves, am i maybe over rating bryce just because I’m a fan or is he acually one of the top 5 players in all of the United States.
If you really do your research, and forget about where he is from for a second, you will come to relize that 14th is a fitting spot, and maybe even a somewhat generous ranking.

ks07 seems to have the right idea about these rankings.
they are pretty much petty bullshit to keep our attention in the offseason.
