Volleyball (need I say more?)

I had a post a little while back asking what’s needed on the blog and some very nice people said we needed volleyball conversation going. So here it is.
I’m a huge volleyball fan. I played it in high school — more heart than star talent — I watch it when I can on TV, I love to cover it. I can’t imagine that the top teams will really change in the Wichita area. So it’s not going out on a limb for me to pick Carroll, Kapaun and Northwest as the best in the City League. Maize lost a lot of playes, but Teri Larson is a great coach. Goddard, Derby, Circle, Andover, those teams will definitely be some of the best.
One of you kind readers gave me a heads up on some players and was kind enough to remind me that Bryan Otte has left Moundridge and is now the coach at Valley Center. He’s an excellent coach who had a ton of success at Moundridge. I can’t imagine anything different at Valley Center.
As for those players, I was told about Hesston sophomore hitter Dominique Chew, a first teamer in 2007, and Hillsboro junior hitter Dakota Kaufman, first teamer in 2007.
North lost Sadie Clark midway through the school year last year. She transferred over to Collegiate. She’s a very nice hitter who was All-City last year as a sophomore. She’s a huge addition for that basketball team, too.
So who else is out there? Want to mention a player? Feel free and give us some info on that player.

Valley Center had good volleyball before Bryan Otte got there and will probably continue to have good volleyball. Who replaced the Augusta coach?

I agree VC has had good teams but I always thought they lacked the mental toughness. Will be interesting to watch BO move from 1A to 5A- there is a difference.

Grin, ya, most 5A teams will shy away from playing a good 1A team.

Hov, I would say there are 3-4 1A teams every year that could play at the 5 and 6A level. Had a former player at Moundridge once told me they would have a full practice before going to the majority of their matches- it was the only way to get a full sweat that night.

I would say that there are more than that. In fact, I’d say that there are about 5-6 5A teams that can play at the 1A level and compete. :)
some of those 1A’s will kick ya real hard, knock ya down, then step on you on their way to the bus.

I sure there are, but lets take St. Thomas and Bishop Miege and I think these 1A bullies would be taken care of quite easily.

I’ve heard VC has some really good Freshmen coming in, one being a very good setter and another is an awesome hitter. They should help change the vball culture there at VC to the point where the school can contend strongly in 5A.

Just a note, Moundridge is 2A and played and beat 5A and 6A schools so B.O. probably knows what the competition is like.
