The inside scoop on Kansas high school sports.

KBCA First Half

Aug. 6, 2008 @ 9:01 p.m. by jlong

This has to be said first-and-foremost, Adonis Gant is the truth.

And he’s the only reason that Wichita Select  the South boys are even in this game. The South trails the North 62-50 at the half.

Gant the point guard for the South has gotten a couple of ohhhs and ahhhs from the crowd with some pinpoint transition passing and one sweet move along the baseline that turned his defender into a magician - because he straight disappeared.

Jackie Carmichael of Manhattan leads the North with 12.

Oh by the way, in the girls game the South defeated the North 86-75. It was a well played contest, but when it comes to All-Star games I’m not big on well-played games. I want action and excitement.

Random Thoughts..

Certain people on the court must not know this is an all-star game. Its already been a couple of players trying to take a charge and a trying to set-up half-court sets. There is no place for this. I want run-and-gun.

Garrius Holloman and Eli Applegate/Cole Fiegel are the lucky guys getting to share the court with Southeast trio Gantt, Jordan Cyphers, and Cortez Barnes. Holloman is getting some touches and trying to create some things, but poor Applegate and Fiegel are just playing defense.

I can’t believe my eyes, someone in the crowd is wearing a DeJuan Wagner jersey (Cleveland Cavs #2). WOW.

Gantt’s abilities have never been in question. It’s been maturity or lack of. I’ve seen him play since he was 10 yrs old at the biddy gym and it was always the same ol’ story. Attitude, attitude, attitude….Hopefully he’ll grow up mentally at Cowley because he is a true talent and fun to watch.

It was a great game, Wichita was very well represented. At one point in the game, Coach Taylor had Cyphers, Gantt, Russell, Holloman, and Barnes on the court at the same time and they just shined together and the North couldn’t keep up. It was a great game. I looked for you Jonathan but couldnt spot you. Thanks for the information for the game.

It was a great game. It was a tad bit boring early on, but then Jordan Cyphers decided to put his game on display. I told Carl Taylor after the game I see how he won the state title.

I know this was close to with all the city players but it would be cool to just have a city league all-stars vs. AVCTl (or rest of the state) all star game for charity or something. Also, maybe add a dunk contest. I remember watching Skip Nickerson taking off from the FT line in dunk contest before an all-star game similar to this.
