Garrett Gould: updated
Aug. 12, 2008 @ 3:35 p.m. by Joannaby joanna
In the spirit of updates, I e-mailed Garrett Gould’s mom to find out how he’s been doing. He’s a busy cat, no doubt about it. He was at the Area Code games last week in Long Beach, this week he’s pitching at Wrigley Field as part of the Under Armour All-American Game.
Here’s what Lisa had to say:
Garrett had a very busy week in California. He threw 4 total innings for the Area Code…one at the exhibition game…two innings on Thursday and one on Sunday morning. I was fortunate to be able to attend this event…the only one I have been able to attend all summer. Friends of ours, Dennis and Julie Kaylor, offered to take me in their motor home, so I stayed with them. We had to leave California early so I didn’t get to see Garrett pitch on Sunday morning but I did get a nice play by play from others who were there. In those 4 innings he had a total of 7 k’s, 2 hits, no walks, 1 run scored, he committed no errors, and his fastball reached 92 mph. We had one free day so Dennis and Garrett went to Rodondo Beach and went jet skiing. Later on, we all went to Universal Studios. There was time spent at the beach and he saw friends from Team USA tryouts so it was fun but yes, he was showing some fatigue from all this showcasing.
He leaves Friday morning for Chicago. I regret that we won’t be able to go. Garrett has become a pretty independent traveler and has really gotten to know the airlines fairly well. He doesn’t like American too well…they always bump or cancel his flight into Wichita. The UnderArmour games will be a lot of fun and really competitive. Each pitcher will get one inning. There will be some extremely talented pitchers at this event. Garrett should be very rested for this…one week without throwing! They are really taking excellent care of the boys for this event with banquets, nice hotel, tour of the city, underarmour gear, etc… We have been getting daily emails counting down to the final day. This is Garrett’s first nationally televised showcase. I think he is excited and knows what a great opportunity and blessing this is.
Thanks to Lisa, for letting me use that e-mail to update you readers. I’ll call Garrett early next week to get an update on how it went.
