What type are you? Spoilers or not?

I ask this question because this is what I’m faced with when it comes to the Olympics. Do I want to know how Jeremy Wariner did in the 400 now — it just happened — or do I want to wait until I’ll see it, via tape-delay on NBC?
I want to see it via tape delay. I admit. I think I’m one of the weird ones. I do. I think most people are heading to the internet to check out the results when they happen. I understand that.
It happened yesterday when I heard my co-workers talking about Usain Bolt winning the 200 and in what time. I was fuming inside — knowing that I was wrong to be fuming. It’s just like, if you tape The Office but don’t watch it before the next morning, can you really ask that other people don’t talk about it? No. (I’m a very introspective person, thus I realize, most of the time, when I’m wrong.)
So this morning, I get a call from a reader who wants to know how Jeremy Wariner did. I don’t want to look it up for him. I want to watch it tonight. But I’m here to help all our readers. So even though my co-workers said they would look it up and whisper it in the phone so I wouldn’t hear it, I looked it up. And found out all about the women’s 200 meters and all about the 400-meter relay prelims.
I’m laughing at myself, really. And I still enjoyed watching Bolt’s race last night, especially because I didn’t know who finished second and third or that Spearman was dq’ed. But it wasn’t like watching the 100 when I had no idea what happened.
I’m the same way when it comes to movies, though. I want to know how it ends, but I sure don’t want anyone telling me.
How about you? Do you want to know as something happens or before it happens or before you see it?
Let me know.

It is more fun being surprised.
My daughter told me Shawn Johnson won the gold before I watched it, I tried to get my ears plugged as she was saying it, but I wasn’t fast enough. Watching later that night just wasn’t as much fun already knowing the outcome.

I think you lose some of the emotion of it when you know what’s coming. Of course, you could argue that you feel the emotion when you hear it or read it, but I think it’s a little different.
Not to get too girlie on some of you, but it’s probably like finding out what gender your baby is. Do you want to know while pregnant or when the baby is first born?
Going against everything I said above, I want to know ahead of time. We’re wonderfully surprised at the time and I get to plan. I get the emotion and deal with my being an anal person all at the same time.

I always check the results out first. That way I am not as nervous when I actually watch the event. Especially, the women’s gymnastics. I would have been a nervous wreck if I didn’t already know the outcome.

A) CANCEL ALL PLANS WHEN THE OFFICE IS ON.

Lion’s roar — good to see you back on the blog. You weren’t around much in the summer. What’s up with that?
jagssoftball — that is horrible. Did you see Fever Pitch? When he started freaking out, holding his hands over his ears when someone started talking about a Red Sox game, I was dying. When I was growing up, we didn’t tape Vikings games because we always wanted to know the final, so we just hurried home from church to catch kickoff.
