Where will you be this week (10-6)?
Oct. 6, 2008 @ 10:13 a.m. by Joannaby joanna
I see the blog was hopping over the weekend. Still without Internet at home. It’s killing me.
But I want to know, where will you be this week?
Tuesday we’ve got City League golf at Braeburn. Of course, as wet as it is now, that could be an issue in a little higher scores. Heights plays at Kapaun in soccer, while Goddard and Hutch play volleyball at Maize. Northwest plays at Heights again in volleyball — volleyball is the weirdest to schedule because of the triangulars. Heights played host to Northwest to open the season. Collegiate also hosts a volleyball quad with Hillsboro, Marion and Halstead.
Thursday in volleyball, there’s Heights at Carroll. Could that decide the City League? We’ll certainly know more after Tuesday’s match of Heights-Northwest.
In cross country, there’s several meets this week — Circle on Thursday and El Dorado and Salina Central on Saturday.
Tennis gets its postseason going this week with regionals on Thursday. Class 4A and 3-2-1A also have sub-state action on Saturday. Golf regionals are a week from today (Oct. 13).
Then there’s football, and we’re a week from districts starting. Amazing.
Derby plays at Salina South. This is a good game. Derby’s undefeated and Salina South has one loss.
Thursday night we’ve got Southeast vs. North at Carpenter. Not a very interesting game for a Thursday night. I noticed some of you questioned where games are held and why a game like Carroll-Heights wasn’t moved to Carpenter. My answer to that is a question — do you think Heights coach Rick Wheeler wants to lose home-field advantage? Would Carroll coach Alan Schuckman want to move a game to Cessna or Carpenter? No. Home field is important.
Moving on. On Friday Garden City plays at Northwest. Garden City is 3-1 (the Buffs had an open date in Week 2), while Northwest is 3-2. East and West play at Heights. I would imagine that Bryce Brown racks up big yardage in the first half of this game.
I haven’t read through all the trash-talk going on with the other blogs, but I couldn’t believe the one about how there are so many more backs better than Brown in this country. Have you seen him play? East’s biggest problem is its line, and I think anyone who was familiar with the program knew that would be the case this year. That’s why it’s been even more vital for East to have a balanced offensive attack so as to take some pressure off that line and Brown. Fact is, this kid is legit. He hasn’t gotten worse. He’s an outstanding player and if he had a little more veteran line, he’d be all over the place.
OK, got that out of my system. Heights plays at South this week. Heights needs to play well in this game because it’s another one that will probably be a blowout. But Heights needs to go into next week’s district play at the top of its game.
Carroll plays Kapaun at Cessna Stadium in what is always a great rivalry. Kapaun won’t win this game, but Kapaun will play well. This could be a close game.
Pittsburg at Andover is very interesting. Pittsburg is 5-0 in Class 5A, but I’ll probably go with Andover here. Andover has won some very good games, and Pittsburg’s schedule isn’t as tough as Andover’s.
Wellington at Rose Hill. Hmmm. Tough game here. Both teams were handled by Andale. I’ll have to mull this one over. Rose Hill’s tough loss on Friday — I’m sure, a major disappointment — has to be hanging with the Rockets. What will they do with it?
Garden Plain plays Wichita Trinity at Maize South. Garden Plain rolls in this game, but Trinity is 3-2. Can anyone else believe that? A first-year team? Amazing.
In other games, El Dorado plays host to Andover Central, Goddard’s at Hutchinson, Salina Central at Maize, Valley Center’s at McPherson, Mulvane’s at Buhler, Kingman’s at Andale, Cheney’s at Belle Plaine, Independent’s at Conway Springs, Halstead’s at Collegiate.
Where will you be? What game needs to be discussed?
Let’s hear about it.

Pratt at Newton should be interesting. Pratt has a bunch of tough kids. Newton is coming off a shellacking(sp?) of Wyandotte (I know, who doesn’t destroy them).
I think Carroll whips Kapaun.

I will be at the Circle XC meet on Thursday. Good meet on the girl’s side with the #2 team in 3A Belle Plaine, #4 team in 4A Clearwater, and #7 team in 5A Valley Center. If BP is healthy I think they can nudge out Clearwater for the top spot.

Exactly my point. They won’t be tested. There too good this year. They play two top 5 teams in Trinity and Independence in the next 2 weeks and will win them both easilly. Simmons and Walls can’t be stopped…

Jo how can you miss the biggest 4A soccer match of the year, Rose Hill at Trinity? You must be getting your nails done or you had planned on cleaning out the loose change and Captain Crunch from under your sofa cushions. Those could be at the top of your list of 100 things to do other than watch 4A soccer, but you would miss a team that has manhandled other soccer powerhouses like Valley Center, Berean, Elyria, Winfield, and Augusta. Shame on you.

Alex should have made the same move Walls did and transfered to Rose Hill.
Rose Hill probably won’t 10-0 Trinity, don’t be surprised if they do though, but they will destroy them.
They will breeze to an undefeated record and a State Championship on there home field. They are far to good. Look at there team. Every starter on the team could be the best player on any team in the area. They are just way to good…
Even if another team can stop Walls, then Simmons will still be there or vice versa. Not to mention Kriwet, Khalidi, Campbell, Dinkel, or anyone else could have a Austin Walls type performance…

Aubuchon, Sissel and Swindler too. Keep an eye on Dom swindler, he’s freshman and might end up being better than all of them. seriously.
Best player? That’s almost impossible to determine, they are agressive and can beat you many different ways. Kriwet is a german exchange student and he’s an incredible ball handler. Khalidi does a little bit of everything and doesn’t feel the pressure to score like he did in Augusta. Walls is generally the fastest guy on the field, once he’s one on one with the goalie, it’s over. Simmons is a stud senior who always plays a good game, perfect complement to Walls.
So if I had to guess… best all-around player? Kriwet. Best scorer? Walls and Khalidi.
RH 6, Trinity 2.

Summer scrimmages don’t mean much. Kind of like Preseason NFL games. Heard Derby did’nt have a lot of their players there anyway. Derby has come on of late and never is much of an early season favorite like one of the Derby fans said. Hey, it would be a neat thing to see though, if RHS could give a SE, Maize, Salina Central or Dodge City a good game.

OMG, I cannot believe all this trash talking on the part of Rose Hill. I understand they didn’t ever get the respect they deserved but join the crowd, neither does Derby. If we want to talk about awesome soccer players lets mention Austin Steadman - 13 goals, 9 assists IN 6A competition - and he lives in Derby and PLAYS for Derby soccer! And no he is not Derby Soccer, we have Christian Gilmore, Daniel Gough, Jared Kientz, Nathan Garrison, we really don’t have a weak player on our team either, otherwise how would they be 11-2 right now and the 2 losses were from the very beginning of the season in Titan Classic.
Also Dominique Swindler (AKA Del Piero as we call him at DERBY when he shows up to his home town pick up games) would be a current member of the Derby C-Team but instead he went to Rose Hill for a better opportunity.
What I am saying is don’t talk trash on 6A until you play some 6A schools, there is some excellent competition out there - Maize, Northwest, Southeast, of course Derby, and some great 5A schools as well - Newton, McPherson, Kapaun, Salina Central. It can be very tough to score 35 goals in a season against that type of defense.

I heard that Swindler went to RH because he wanted to kick for the Derby football team and play soccer but Derby has a policy against playing 2 sports at the same time. Is he kicking for RH football? I know his dad and its hard for me to believe that he would have only been on C-team in Derby!! I think he plays for some KC super stud Club tteam doesn’t he. Like the junior KC wizards or something??
