Bishop Carroll over Kapaun

What a game.

I don’t know if anyone thought this would be close, but the Kapaun players showed a lot of heart. Every time BC went for a knockout blow, the Crusaders answered. I hate to the whole concept of “moral victories,” but this can’t be described as anything but that.

Blake Bell had his usual outstanding game. I think the wind got to him a bit as he had some balls sail high in the game, however you can’t complain with 350 passing yards and a total of four touchdowns. His name is about to be an adjective. Seriously.

Parent: “How did you do out there son?”

Kid: ” I was Blake Bell’em out there. Throwing all over the field.”

I was highly impressed with Joe Brown. He was injured against Heights so this was my first chance to watch him play. He is fearless over the middle and has good hands. I could see him playing fullback at the next level.

I thought the BC defensive backs played too cautious. They were playing behind the Crusader receivers almost all game, But I don’t know why?

That’s what happened on Ben VinZant’s 54-yard touchdown pass to Chris Hayes. The BC defenders were behind Hayes and thought the ball was overthrown. Hayes jumped to make the catch, spinned, and with the BC defenders out of the play he ran into the end zone.

The Kapaun defense was just over-matched by a very, very good BC offense.

When the game got tight, I wondered just how the BC offense would fair with no run game. The Eagles keep teams honest with Bell, Seiler, and Rollins however, when it comes down to it the Eagles really don’t have a run game.

Last thought: I would have like to seen Bell throw the deep ball more and I would have liked to see Kapaun get running back Dylan Knox in space. I thought Knox would have been a little more effective if he caught some screens or went in motion. i don’t know if he can catch the ball, but I’d like to see the Crusaders use him the way that BC uses Joe Brown.

I would have like to see Seiler and Bell run some deep posts or some “Allen Iverson” routes.

{Editor Note: Allen Iverson routes are when the receivers just run straight down the field. That’s what me and my friends call them because its been said that when Allen played football in high school their was one play. A.I. was the QB in shotgun formation and everybody would just go deep, and either he’d throw you the ball or he ran.}

    Mistakes , miscues , overconfidence and a KFC team that came to play made for a closer game than expected. BC played like ….well like Kapaun. Bell threw enough passes to set records, but he was off on almost half and I don’t think it was the wind. This team as a whole needs to tighten up . As good as the offence is they need a horse-sized running back to bring up their rushing yards. Big Joe Brown can run but isn’t being used as a running back often enough. Somewhere on that massive team has to be a Josh Smith-like character that can get 4 or 5 yards at will . With Mr. Bell at the helm this team lives by the receivers, Johansen gets the award for “the stickiest hands” and should be the main target. The D-backs were playing very soft and allowed to many yards after the catch. Overall this game , as always , was fun to watch. The Rivalry lives on. Hats off to the wabbits for a good game.

    This will probably be the tightest game Carroll will play for several weeks. The next three games will be cake walk. This could be a great chance for them to work on their running game.

    The Kapaun coaching staff needs to find other ways to get Knox the ball in the open field. Mix in some screens, reverses, or draw plays. He can make plays given the opportunity.

    Gangreen78, take off your Rose colored glasses and look at the game for real. BC didn’t give KMC anything and BC played a very good game, I didn’t see many mistakes or miscues as you say, so call like it was a good football game between two good teams and YES the better team won.
