Derby Dad-

No doubt, they wont be as strong as this years team. I was merely pointing out to vonerich that next years team does not have as bleak an outlook as he would like to forecast. I am not predicting a 7 or 8 win season, but they wont be goddard like. Also your assessment of the jv qb was essentially the same as mine. However, give the kid another year in the system to improve his reads and understanding of the system which, I believe, clark will tweak to play to the teams strength.

fball guy you are right you lose Snodgrass and Wilson and langworthy, westyand mohlhoek. However you also lose Dunham, Chase, Sparks, and Nichols. And several on a defense that already has shown some weakness. The JV QB you speak of may be tall but he doesn't make the quick decisions as Jake does and does not have the legs. I would love to be wrong, that the Panthers will just reload and be as strong. Losing 9 starters on any offense along with
transfer Hyde who was a second string backup at receiver will weaken any team.

On the Andover Pittsburg game it wasnt Andover’s Ben Riedel that picked up the fumble after Andover’s Alex Croituru blocked it, it was another Andover football player.

90 Grad, Dyllon is one of a few best players on that team. He needs to find away to stay in the game and quit cramping up, but he is a fine player the best??

Browns99, I'd say you have Goddard figured out pretty well. The success of the Goddard teams depends on the ability of the players to outplay their coaches. Last year they could. This year they can't. But last year's players had no more respect for the coaching than this year's (this isn't true of all the coaches, but it starts from the top). We keep running the same plays that don't work. They only worked last year because Watkins could run himself out of trouble. We've heard opposing fans say that they could tell what plays we were going to run. Mishandling of players has drained the love of the game out of them. They've thought about quitting for weeks but stick it out for each other. A starting OT quit before the Hutch game, so we lost 80 lbs. off our starting O line.

Interestingly, Goddard's freshmen beat Hutch last night for the 1st time ever.

Regarding Derby, it's interesting that we haven't heard much from the huffers and blowers that predicted a blowout. They nearly got blown out themselves. Derby obviously know how to win though. Congratulations on pulling it out. However, against the 3 good teams they've played this year, they have a combined winning margin of 5 points. That requires a combination of skill and luck (favorable calls, opponent miscues, and reliance on big plays) which I don't expect will last through more than a couple of rounds in playoffs.

DerbyDad, instead of waving your DVD in front of your monitor, why don't you put some of that video on YouTube for ALL to see what you saw in last year's East game. I have video too and would like to compare it to the view from the other side. If you were one of the refs, of course the penalties were still committed in your eyes because you saw what you wanted to see (green). I would especially like to see the "chop block" in OT. Also, the penalty at the end of the first half by the East defense so that Derby runs one more play with ZERO seconds. During regulation, why don't you count how many TDs were called back. I counted at least three.

I think derby will be just fine next year despite losing Langworthy Westmoreland and Molhoek on the O- line as well as Wilson And Snodgrass. They return a good portion of their back seven on D, they also have a good crop of soph. and junior receivers and have 2 hardnosed rb's. The d-line is undersized but they all have motors and are quick and scrappy. The Jv qb has a strong and accurate arm, but is not as good a runner as Snodgrass. One more year in the system will help him immensely with his reads and command of the offense.

Gamer, I'm keeping track of all of the position players comparing rushes vs passes, yardage etc. because I love offense and I believe the talent is there in all of those positions.

I too played in the ice game, Nov. 1, 1991--most fun game I ever played in. Then again, it was always fun sticking it to SE. Districts were much easier for Derby then, having West and South as the other two opponents. Won't be so easy this year, Heights is legit and will be tough to beat. And if they can't move the ball against East, there will be problems. Derby's been succeptible to the big play this year, which makes Brown even more dangerous. And SE is no pushover, notwithstanding its last two games.
