Where will you be this week (11-10)
Nov. 10, 2008 @ 12:08 p.m. by Joannaby joanna
There’s not as much going on this week, but it’s can’t-miss stuff.
We’re planning on running All-Metro and all-league volleyball teams on Wednesday, while All-Metro and all-league soccer teams will go Thursday.
The rest is football.
Let’s get it started with Northwest at Derby, considering this has already generated so much talk on the blog. It’s a new day, so my eyes aren’t glazed over yet.
Northwest running back Demarcus Robinson came into the season with plenty of expectations on his shoulders, and he hasn’t done anything to lessen that. The kid is fast and he’s a bruiser. On the other side, there’s Derby running back Aaron Wilson, who’s also highly talented and has put up big numbers — but also is dangerous as a receiving threat. If he’s fully healthy, he’s scary.
When it comes to the quarterback, I don’t think there’s a question that Derby quarterback Jake Snodgrass is dangerous, to run and to throw. He’s also intelligent and he can find any number of receivers, including Tyler Dunham, an athletic receiver. Northwest quarterback Ethan Chadick doesn’t throw much, which is a concern because Derby can score quickly.
I think Derby wins this game, but it’s close. Derby is going to have problems stopping Robinson, but I think Northwest has the bigger problem trying to stop the high-octane offense that is Derby.
All right, moving on to Bishop Carroll at McPherson. Carroll definitely struggled against Salina Central on Friday night. It’s one of the first times this season that the Eagles’ offense has sputtered and had problems. But they still won. McPherson is a very different team from Carroll, using the bruising back Dylan Barrow. I liked this kid and he pounded Kapaun on Friday. This will be an interesting matchup, but I think Carroll’s offense gets back and track and is too tough for Mac to handle.
Heights at Junction City — this is a tough second round game for the Falcons. District champs, yet they get one of the state’s toughest teams. I’m not sure if Heights can win this game. The Falcons have been playing better the past few weeks offensively, and that’s the key. Their defense is their bread and butter, but they have to mix things up on offense to be able to come out of Junction with a win.
Beloit at Conway Springs — Conway Springs is playing well right now, and I think the Cardinals win this game, too. Just wish I was going to this game — I love the press box people at Conway, and I haven’t been in the new press box yet.
Andale at Rock Creek — I’m amused by the comments on this blog with people overlooking Andale. Silly, silly, silly. This team may not win it all, but I’m banking on a semifinal game with Hayden next week. Andale made mistakes Saturday, yet still won big over a good Wellington team. Rock Creek’s offense is dangerous, but Andale still wins this game.
Buhler at Topeka Hayden — Buhler has made a nice run and it’s good to see that Jorden Oden’s back. But it ends here. Hayden had a rough game against Andover Central — and won fair and square despite some random comments about officiating — but TJ McGreevy is way too tough and will play a key role in Hayden advancing to the semis.
Garden Plain at Scott City – This is a tough draw because it’s such a long trip for the Owls, but there’s no reason why Garden Plain doesn’t win this game. This team is deep and balanced and it’s done the traveling thing before. I’m taking Garden Plain.
So how about you? Who are you taking? Where will you be?

The Andale-Rock Creek game is at Manhattan’s Bishop Field — where the Manhattan High football team plays. I’m not sure what Rock Creek’s field looks like, but considering how well Andale’s fans travel (they’re some of the best!), this stadium will surely fit all who want to be there.

here is the scoop on rock creek… they run the strangest offense ever. its sooo old school with the entire line toe to toe, 2 wingbacks a qb and a fullback. the fullback is 2 yards behind the center with a qb squeezed in somehow. they run the ball every down it seems like, and it usually nets 2 to 3 yards a carry. they go for it every 4th down. the wingbacks usually alternate who gets the ball. The pass game is outragous. the ends will cut block their person, then crawl out and THEN go out for a pass. it is sloooow and boooring. but whatever it takes to get to the endzone, and its working. as long as andale scores every possible chance and gets a few stops they will win. im pullin for the indians

Ill be in the drumline section at home in derby watchin the battle with NW. idk much about NW but i looked into their stats and they have a good running game behind Demarcus Robinson but their passing game doesnt look impressive. Does someone wanna take the time and summarize this team with aspects of both defense and offense and how they have been this year? and how is Demarcus Robinson? is he comparable to Joseph Randall?

If both teams have hosted a game, east goes west this week, and next week if both teams have hosted, west goes east. I think this is the formula. Someone will correct me if I am wrong. So that would mean Derby goes to Junction City if both teams win this week.

Your welcome. But I might be wrong still. Check the KSHSAA website out and I think they have it on there. That will be a long nite if you guys have to go up there and play. You might want to root for Wichita Heights to win. Shorter drive and a chance for revenge.
