A handful of protesters showed up for services at a South Wichita church Sunday morning. They claim Spirit One Christian Center is violating their status as a non profit 501(c)3 organization by claiming on their sign that America is living

I asked this on the Soccer All-Metro post: If you were picking All-Metro (for whatever sport), what would your criteria be?
Grade in school?
Must be a nice kid?
Specific stats?
Play for successful team?

vbattack -- so what you're saying, in a roundabout way, is if you were picking the team, it would be Dotson, Engel, Shook, Clark, Kaiser and Bengtson. Sounds like the "vb attack" team is a good one, too.
But we disagreed, and I based mine not only on opinion but coaches votes, nominations and talking to others. And that's ok.

FUNNY THOUGHT: Two girls from our metro area have signed to play volleyball at WSU the "11th ranked team in the NATION." But they are not good enough to make the "chadwick" all metro team. lol kind of proves a point some are trying to make on here that the best of the best are not who really makes this team. Dotson, Engle, Shook, S Clark, Kaiser, Bengston. Those are the BEST players in the area.

No offense to anyone, especially the selections, but i think everyone takes all metro a bit to seriously. I actually like the face that it includes people from a big selection of schools, so u dont end up with a devision with one team as its first team, clearwater lol. All State is when the hard stats and real prestige comes, when is that coming out any clue

Actually, I wasn't impressed with any single girl from Garden Plain, but they did look well as a team. For one of them to be listed just cause they won state would be highly political.

Don't worry about it Joanna, I catch hell because I work for rivals and they require a membership to read what I write to help pay me and some jack thinks I'm bad cause I don't work for free. You got a good team, you can live with it.

Sry, I got another advertising plug in didn't I. :(

Sigh. OK. There's not one thing political about the All-Metro teams that we pick. Why you feel dirty looking at seven girls and a coach being honored in another fashion outside of All-League, I don't understand. Disagree with the choices of All-Metro -- in whatever sport -- that's fine.
But understand one thing -- I'm not in anyone's pocket, I don't have bones to pick with anyone. I just pick the best players based on what I've seen, what other coaches say, how coaches vote. Really. Seriously. It's that black and white.

Were there deserving athletes left off the team? Of course. But it has seven players and one coach.

The All-City issue is one that I can understand based on your history. So let me revisit why we changed how we did things.
*The Wichita Eagle has a readership base that extends beyond the city limits.
*Yet within the city limits, there are many, many students who attend area schools because that is their district. (This happens frequently with Andover, Maize and Goddard, for instance.)
*So why not find yet another way to honor the area kids in our readership base? Why not make it even bigger than we did All-City? This is meant to be the cream of the crop -- whether you agree with selections or not -- so it's an even bigger honor.
*Is the Eagle about selling newspapers? Lord, yes. This is a business.

Feel free to dislike how we do things, feel free to disagree with me on whatever subject. But don't make it so these kids think that it means less. Parents are constantly clamoring for their children to receive attention for this or that, so let those who are honored enjoy it.
It's not dirty. It's an honor.
A parent reminded me of that yesterday when she told me how ecstatic her daughter was when she found out she'd been chosen. That's cool.
