The All-Metro volleyball team and the all-league teams for City League, AV-CTL, Central Plains and MCAA ran in today’s pictures. You can check them out here.

Also, Just got an e-mail that Kaitlin Stearns from Clearwater was named the GTM Sportswear (out of Manhattan) athlete of the week for Kansas.

As for All-Metro soccer, it’s coming out on Thursday.

Not a big fan of all Metro. I like the all league teams and all state. I usually agree with most all-league teams but have yet to really agree with any all metro. I just think you guys are trying to include too many schools. How does McFarland make all metro from a marginal team this year? It seems like if you make all-metro as a junior, regardless of your senior year you are a shoo-in for the team.

inthedark — we definitely don’t think anyone will ever agree with every single player. That would mean we all have one like mind — and we don’t. But it makes for good debate.
As for just because you make it as an underclassmen you’re in as a senior — that’s not true.
Everyone on this team had the votes and the stats to back up their selections.
So who would your seven players and coach be? (this is for anyone)

  5. inthedark says:

7 players on a volleyball team? Since when do they play with 7? Is this part of “no child left behind”? The coach was a great pick!

You are definitely in the dark. The seven volleyball players comes from the six girls on the court and now we the libero position. Since the libero doesn’t use up a sub, they get counted. Seven is the right number.

  8. inthedark says:

So you are saying that they play with seven players now? Libero counts as one of the SIX players on the court, because only six play at a time. You should only have six players on an all league team, like having 5 on an all league basketball team. So all-metro has six players and a sub. I now understand.

inthedark, inthedark, inthedark. Goodness, goodness, goodness.
Have you seen how many positions they pick on a football team for offense for all-league? There’s only 11 on the field at a time, right? Yet there’s two receivers, one quarterback, three running backs (or two running backs and a fullback), five offensive linemen, a kicker, a kick returner, an athlete. And that’s just on offense!
I remember the debate over this issue back in 1996, my first year in Wichita. A defensive specialist is very important to a team, just as a kicker is. So when a DS is in, there’s only six on the court. Now there’s a libero in high school and it plays more than most people do.
So there you go. Now I’m tired.

That’s twice you’ve gotten owned inthedark. Give up

I can understand with football because you have several different positions with offense, defense and special teams. You can not compare football to volleyball. Let’s compare all-metro soccer, basketball and volleyball. Basketball has 5 on all metro, the same number who play and they don’t include a sixth man. Soccer has 11 on all-metro, the same number who play. I think it is healthy debate but since I am being “owned” and this talk is wearing some of you out I guess it is too tough of a debate to have.
