Hovpen is right on with his comments.
J. Long, you want to see what wrestling is all about in this part of the state? Show up in Derby on Friday Jan. 9th for the semi-finals of the Derby Invitational, it will be very intense!!! The finals are great too but the semi's is where the kids turn it loose and wrestle at a whole different level to make that finals match.

That is usually a given in that part of the state. It is the one sport there that Kansas side and we must state that it it a Kansas City area thing and does not consider the rest of the state, does not do well with Missouri. In fact, the KC area is traditionally weak in wrestling.

Consider that Derby split its team this weekend and managed to win the SMNW Cougar Invitational and the Douglass Goodwill Invitational wrestling tournaments on Saturday. This is the second straight year that coach Ross has done this with his wrestlers, showing just how strong overall the Derby program is.

How many other Kansas wrestling teams can or have win two major tournaments in the same weekend.

Take notice however, that in the other sports, Basketball boys and girls, volleyball, baseball and softball, that the Kansas side of the river in that area has more than held their own with their counterparts on the other side even with the huge population difference.
