The City League won’t play basketball Tuesday, but they’ll be back on Friday night with one of the biggest games in this young season. That’s Southeast at Heights. Get there early, that’s all I can say.

Southeast is ranked No. 1 in the 6A poll that I do, while Heights is No. 3. Heights moved up after it opened the season with a win over East. Southeast is so deep and has such good guard play, but Heights isn’t shabby in either area. While Southeast has Joe Mitchell and Cecil Shaw, Heights has guards Dorrian Roberts and Evan Wessel. That’s where the best matchups will be. Both have tough inside players, but both are not as experienced as the guards.

OK, moving on. Tuesday’s games — Salina Central is at Derby, and that’s the game I’m going to. Salina Central is in my top five, so I want to see them play.

Augusta girls play at Andover Central. Central is coming off the loss to Collegiate, while Augusta lost a close one to Rose Hill. Andover plays at Mulvane. I like Andover and think it wins this one — especially if Mulvane’s Tyler Springer is still out with an ankle injury.

Kingman is at Rose Hill, the undefeated boys and girls teams. How about that? Salina South is at Maize. Salina South has a really nice girls team.

On Friday, some big games include Carroll at East (I’d like to see this game, too — didn’t Carroll beat East last year?), while Andover is at Andover Central. Love the rivalry between the Andover schools — and they’re both awfully good teams this year. Again. Maize plays at Goddard — that is a rivalry. Should be interesting.

Northwest and South play — gives one of those boys teams a chance to get their first win. North is at West, and I’d expect a fast-paced game on the boys side.

There’s a couple big wrestling events this week, too. Andover Central is at Rose Hill for a dual, and Bishop Carroll hosts its annual tournament.

All right, so what did I miss? Which games need to be covered? Where will you be?

Let’s hear about it.

This is too close to call. The premier match ups for this game will be Dorian Roberts-Cecil Shaw/Joe Mitchell and Perry Ellis-Ronald Cobb. I’m going to really look at the postmen. Ellis biggest test this season will be Cobb (as well as Blake Bell).

After a slow start against Mac and a dull but easy win over Buhler, Goddard looked strong against Manhattan on the road, winning each quarter in spite of a threat in the 4th by a kid that hit 4 threes in a row. With four returning starters, look for two tough but exciting wins over Hutch and Maize this week.

CLFAN, I would swap your front court and back court prediction. The other two look fine.
