Predictions for 2009

With Wednesday being the last day of the year, I want to look ahead now. What do you think 2009 will bring us? You can take this as only a high school sports topic, or you can take it elsewhere and look at the bigger picture of Wichita, sports in general, the world.

I’m going to go out on a limb with my two predictions here (if you remember, longtime readers, I detest predictions. Pretty much because I detest being wrong. Hey, I’m one of the few that people know their real name!) My predictions for basketball are the Heights girls will win 6A and either East, Heights or Southeast will win 6A boys. There. That’s as far as I will go.

OK, let me take it one step further. I predict that someone will be absolutely evil in calling out a 15-year-old athlete. I predict that the East-Southeast game will have a huge crowd. I predict the Heights-Carroll girls games will be the two best we’ll see all season.

I predict that Carroll wrestling’s dual streak comes to an end. I predict that I will upset many Carroll fans with that comment. I predict that Goddard and Derby will duke it out for the 6A wrestling title.

So what do you expect from 2009? I’m sure there are tons better predictions than these, so add yours.

    Here is a limb. I predict that the Andale Softball team will repeat as State Champion in 2009. Only they will be 5A State Champs rather than the 4A State Champs.

    I predict that the Shocker Pre-State Challenge(no more KT Woodman) will still be cold as h***.  “Happy New Year”.

    oh and here’s another prediction

    derby football will make it to the playoffs (i’ll say just the first round), even though they are losing 90% of their offense the backups they have filling in those positions are pretty good. and they return all the linebackers, corners and safteys. so our defense is gonna be pretty good. not saying that we are going to be going to the semi’s again. but like we say down in derby,

    We Don’t Rebuild We Reload.

    baseball – 3 city teams go to state this year and 1 wins. I predict Manhattan goes to 6A state in baseball this year….how many years in a row will that be anyways?

    I PREDICT THAT DERBY FOOTBALL IS MOVED UP TO THE NFL, AS WE COMPLETELY DOMINATE EVERYONE IN OUR PATH. I PREDICT THAT TYLER DUNHAM WINS NFL ROOKIE OF THE YEAR IN 3 YEARS, AND THAT JAKE SNODGRASS WINS THE SUPERBOWL NEXT YEAR (He’s allowed to skip college on grounds of being too talented).

    Here’s few for ya! The Heights Boys BB team will advance to the State tourney, and be at least top 3. Derby Football will not make it to the playoff’s next year. Boys Baseball dunno! Derby girls BB team will not make it past their sub-state regional. Their is absolutely no one else on that team who can take the load off of Joanna McFarland, let alone compliment her! Sry Joanna! Derby Boys Basketball, better than last year yet not quite talented to make it past the regionals. Derby Wrestling team has done good early on and will continue to have a good season, places 2nd at state as a team. Kyle Westmoreland, Andy Jundt, Chris Eversmeyer of Derby and a few others absolutely will not play Div 1 anything. Marcus Heit & Dunham of Derby can and will play DIV 1 football if they choose. Bet on it!! That Engwall kicker kid from Derby not only will play DIV 1 football, but we may see him on Sundays. The running Back Wilson is a dark horse for DIV 1, but i would definitely bet on him. Track and Field. Flores from Maize may have it tough to three-peat in the 400. Garcia from N.W. Will not repeat as 1600 Champion. If O’connel of Andover ran at the 6A level he would not repeat his state performance, but i will give him the distance events in 4A, really dont think the Mulvane Boys are anything impressive on the track, maybe XC! Barrientez of Campus will be someone to watch in the 3200 with lots of competition. Other predictions abound, just tired of typing!

    PanFan I agree, Barrientez is awesome. I predict (more like a wish) Carroll gets the 5A football trophy. Please someone knock out Hutch for us!

    Swim mom you could gather all the four leaf clovers, lucky rabbits feet, and all the lucky charms in the world and that still won’t happen at least not next year. Unlike lou’s misstatement on Derby reloading, Hutch really reloads every year.

    Von – I hear you. No kidding (and no fair!!!) Okay, I’ll make a pat prediction and say that BC’s band will be awesome again next year. (Darnit, both Hutch and Derby have really great bands, too…)

    LOL. I have heard BC’s band is really good. I am sure they will be good again next year. I hate making predictions, but Kansas high school football will be just as exciting in 2009 as it was in 2008

    I’ll make a bold/stupid prediction for Hutch football next year…I’ll predict that no team other than Rockhurst will play Hutch closer than 25 points next season.

    Hutch could have one of the most dominating rushing offenses that the state of Kansas has ever seen next season.

    for 1 i didnt post on this thing last year and fyi im normally never wrong when i post stuff of here (usually)
    and vone lol here we go again haa derby reloads every year it just took them a few years to get chuggin again.

    but i do agree that hutch really reloads. they’re a dynasty
