Who will have the best commercial in the Super Bowl?
Saturday, January 31st, 2009by joanna
I’m curious as to what you think. Will it be Budweiser, Bud Light or some start-up company that no one has ever heard of or will remember on Monday morning?
Will there be animals in this commercial (such as the Clydesdales, lizards, frogs)?
And when will you fill your plate with food? During commercials or during the game?
Butler and Griggs: Why do they inspire such strong emotions?
Saturday, January 31st, 2009by joanna
I’m just curious. The two most talked about people on this blog — not by me, but in the comments sections — are Brian Butler and Mark Griggs.
The interesting thing about them is they get such polar opposite responses to mentions of them.
There is a segment of the population who absolutely love both these men. They love what they’ve done for their respective sports (football for Butler, softball for Griggs) and for the players in those sports.
Then there is the other segment that hates on them.
Why is that? I ask because I have no answer.
Tourney recap (1-31)
Saturday, January 31st, 2009by joanna
For the second straight day I wrote about a shocking loss that happened in stunning fashion. Goddard (6A) gets smacked by St. John (1A) on Friday in McPherson and Carroll gets smacked by Olathe South today at Kapaun.
I did not expect Carroll to lose so badly today. A loss wouldn’t have surprised me that much. Olathe South is a good program, well-coached, good athletes.
Do you know what you look like?

Yes, I understand you know what you look like in the mirror. But how about when you’re at a game? Do you know what people are thinking when they see you?

update 8:15 p.m. — Bishop Carroll loses 63-40. Four Carroll players fouled out, and Julia Marshall was the only player in double figures, scoring 16, all in the second half. Natalie Knight led Olathe South with 29 points.

Looks like we’ve got some championship games worth checking out.
I’m heading to Kapaun to see Bishop Carroll play Olathe South, which beat Kapaun by nine. I would imagine this will be a well-played, well-coached championship.
At El Dorado, Collegiate will play Olathe Northwest in the finals.
Bryce Brown and signing day
Friday, January 30th, 2009by joanna
That’s what Jonathan Long tells us in his story that ran in today’s paper, that Bryce Brown, who made an oral commitment to Miami, is weighing his options.
So what do you think about this? I personally don’t care when someone signs. Just be happy wherever you are going.

update 9:33 p.m. – Buhler wins 60-31.
update 9:15 p.m. –The Buhler student section — the largest student section I’ve seen in a tournament yet (including the three tourney games at Highland Park last week) — did the roller coaster again for me. So I hope to have it on the blog next week.

There’s one game that I didn’t expect to say will be a good one to watch today in girls tourneys — The Northwest girls in the semifinals against Junction City in the Shawnee Heights tournament. Northwest got a big win over Shawnee Heights on Thursday. Good win for the program.
In other tourneys:
