Today’s tourneys (1-30)

There’s one game that I didn’t expect to say will be a good one to watch today in girls tourneys — The Northwest girls in the semifinals against Junction City in the Shawnee Heights tournament. Northwest got a big win over Shawnee Heights on Thursday. Good win for the program.

In other tourneys:

I’ll be heading to McPherson to check out that tournament. Goddard handled business yesterday, huh? I love it when teams overcome adversity. And I guarantee you that every team goes through it at some point of the season. Goddard will play St. John. Buhler plays Hays int he nightcap, while Andale’s in the losers bracket against Salina Central.

At Kapaun, Carroll’s got Circle, which got a good win yesterday over Great Bend. Kapaun will play Olathe South, which is a tough matchup for the host school. I’m predicting a Carroll-Olathe South final. I’m betting Don Racine is glad he got that 500th win out of the way in the first round. Now everyone’s focusing on basketball and not him.

At Newton, the games of the day are a rematch with Andover Central and Rose Hill. It was close when they played a little more than a week ago, when the Jaguars won. I don’t know what will happen this time. But it should be good. The Liberal-Omaha Marian game also looks good. Should be a good test for both teams. Marian has got some height, though, and that will be a challenge for the undefeated Redskins.

I know there’s plenty of other tourneys out there, feel free to fill us in on the ones you’re interested in.

  • Brooks

Maize 19, Great Bend 19 at half.

  • Brooks

    Great Bend 39, Maize 32

  • Tom

Andover Central 36, Rose Hill 35. Final. Defensive struggle to say the least.

Rose hill was down 33-25 with 3:30 to play… a pair of threes by Kristy Herman and a 2 by Kelli Herbel made it 34-33 with under 30 seconds. Central misses a FT, Courtney Rash secures the rebound and scores on a layup at the other end. 35-34 RH with under 15 seconds left.

Central calls timeout with 10 seconds left. Ball inbounds to Bias who drives three quarters of the court and swishes a floater with two seconds left.

Bias is one hell of a player… amazing.
