This is the last night of the regular season for most teams in Class 1A. And we’ve only got two games left for the smaller classes, usually three for the bigger.

Here’s a look at tonight’s games, where the most interesting game is, um, um, um:

I’ll be heading out to Rose Hill (13-4 girls, 10-7 boys) tonight to see the Rockets play host to Circle (11-6 girls, 14-3 boys). I foresee a split, Rose Hill girls win, Circle boys win. Just my thoughts.

Carroll’s at West, Kapaun’s at East, Northwest is at Heights and South is at North.

I think the most interesting part of the City League is that Heights’ manager, Kyle Coffman is starting. Coffman is autistic and coach Joe Auer promised him years ago that if he worked hard, he could start a game. I just think that is so cool. I’ve seen Kyle over the years, seen him at football and basketball games, seen him even helping out with the rock climbing at the YMCA.

This is kind of similar to one of my favorite stories. There was a manager, Matt Beemer, at Bishop Carroll. He wasn’t autistic or anything, but he’d been a longtime manager. Well, he’d been on the team’s roster all year, so senior night of his senior year, then-coach Dale Faber started him against Southeast. I think he took a couple threes, might have even made one. But it still gives me chills to remember how pumped up he was and the whole student section. I love that part of sports.

OK, heading out of the City League, Andale’s at Clearwater, Andover at Augusta and Andover Central at El Dorado. Campus is at Mac (did you see Campus hired a new football coach? It’s former Heights defensive coordinator, Mike Schartz. Tom O’Connor was head coach for two years.)

Salina Central is at Goddard, Salina South at Derby, Maize at Hutch.

Garden Plain is at Wichita Trinity, Collegiate at Hoisington.

Like I said, not a lot of great games. Not even ones that really spark my interest, how about you?

We’ve got wrestling regionals on Saturday. Check out the story on the Liberal regional

State swimming starts today.

Bowling league tourneys are on Saturday.

So where will you be tonight or this weekend? What am I missing that’s exciting for tonight?

I will definatly be attending the GP WTA game. With all five of garden plains starters beind D1 prospects its a sure fire match up. I only wish i could be like trinity’s coach and start my own son(s). Make that plural even though they have better potiential on the bench where they belong!

Trinityballer — really? Are you trying to start something? I detest that. If you’re new to the blog, do a search for your comments, my rules.

Remember the comments a month ago when we (Goddard fans) complained about the refs at Salina Central, and people said we should be careful because refs read the blogs and they’d be coming back to Goddard? Uh oh.

proud dad, comments like that are really frustrating to see and so far off base it is borderline silly. i know the vast majority of officials in the wichita area and i would really have to think long and hard to come up with one who would come read something on this blog and then go take his pent up frustrations out on a team because of that. even after thinking “long and hard” about it, i doubt i could come up with one.

can i say that every official out there gives every team and coach a brand new slate when they walk on the court? unfortunately not. there are always one or two bad apples in the bunch. but even those one or two bad apples who may have a feud or “history” with a coach are striving towards the common goal of calling a game fairly. any official who doesn’t wipe the slate clean at tipoff of every game loses respect from his peers. 99% of us are harder on ourselves than any fan out there would ever dream, and when we kick a call, that we are unable to take back, it will be dissected in the locker room post game, lessons learned, and a conscious effort to not make the same mistake twice will be made.

i had a game last week with a coach who earlier this season had been upset with my crew. more accurately, i think he vented his frustrations at how his kids were playing in the game towards the officials. when i met with him a few weeks later during the pregame conference, smiles were instantly exchanged, a joke was cracked about inappropriate behavior (by the coach mind you!) and the fact that it wouldn’t happen again. clean slate at tip off. every game. (again, i have to admit i can’t speak for every person in stripes, but i do feel i speak out for the majority.)

the integrity of the game far surpasses some comments on a message board. my point with novel of a post (it got longer than i meant) is that the paranoia of fans that think the officials are out to get them is simply that: paranoia. i wish there was a way to let people “behind the scenes” so that they could truly see this, but i think that would take the fun out of it for some people who need a scapegoat for when things don’t go their way.

Geez stripes. Lighten up. It was all tongue in cheek, just like last time. You must be one of those with no sense of humor that likes to stare down players and coaches. I hope you enjoy your day job.

    Good one, Sonar!
