Lets talk baseball: Week 2

If you like high school baseball then Westurban is the place to be today. It’s City League versus AV-CTL Division I. Maize faces Bishop Carroll at 6 p.m. with Northwest hosting Goddard at 7 p.m.

There will be plenty of star power on display in both games. I’m interested in how well the bats for Carroll and Northwest will do against the starters for the Eagles and Lions.

Who takes it? What are the other match-ups to look out for today?

  • Peter Gammons

I’m calling an AVCTL/CL split. Maize will take the win in the Carroll game, and NW will take the win against Goddard

  • Schmakey

Do you have to pay to get into the games?

  • Jonniecomelately

I say AVCTL takes both of these, and yes, you will be charged to enter the game.

Hey Jonathon – any scores from Westurban yet?

  • jlong

The BC-Maize JV game went long so the Varsity didn’t start until 7 p.m. I’m watching NW vs. Goddard. Lions 3-0 bottom of the first.

Carroll held lead 2-1 after 1st. No scores until Maize tied game in top of 7th with 2 outs. 2-2 after 7th. Maize scored 2 in top of 8th and held on to win 4-2. Carroll squandered several opportunities to put game away late. Great game by both teams this early in the season.

Where’s AndyJ, what happened BC, NW ?

  • AndyJ

Well Crack, I assumed BC would lose by much more than they actually did with Gould on the mound, and as for NW they have the talent, but honestly they looked very unprepared for Goddard…talk to me after either of these teams play Kapaun! lol

  • Crack

AndyJ, you were the one predicting results, I don’t care one way or the other, I said KMC should be pretty good this year which I still stand by, never dog on a team which you did KMC I wish BC and NW all the luck this year.

Maize bats didn’t really start coming alive until the end of the game. Gould had 8 or 9 k’s and 3 walks in 5 innings. Nielson threw a good game and Maize hitters couldn’t get much past the infield. BC got a couple of hits off Gould throughout the game and in the first inning was able to get some base runners on with a walk, hit and mishandled dropped 3rd strike and scored their two unearned runs on defensive errors. Lawson came in and relieved for Maize and threw very well to earn the win and BC relievers were unable to get the job done.
